Ordered 10TB for my QNAP 4-bay NAS
Pros: Bought 2 10TB drives on 10/10/2017. ordered 2 more on 02/20/2018 to expand storage. They do not get a ton of read/writes on my NAS units. But I prefer the 7200 rpm over the 5400 on the WD Red I used to buy.
Cons: None so far
Overall Review: I have 41 HGST NAS drives. All but one was purchased from Newegg. Bought my first 4TB drive on 7/24/2014. Most of my HGST NAS drives are 4TB, 6TB or 8TB model. Four of them are now the 10TB drives. Of all the drives purchased since 2014, only had one 8TB fail. Returned it to mfg. They sent me a brand new drive in retail box. The 8TB that failed was only 8 months old. It was obviously just a lemon. I can live with one lemon out of 41 over four years. I am very happy with the HGST NAS drives installed in my NAS devices. I recommend HGST NAS drives to everyone.
DON'T BUY IT
Pros: none
Cons: After owning two of these for five months, one failed and would no longer register that there were any drives installed. The second failed a few days later after I installed two blank drives and pressed the reset button. The second unit no longer works over esata, only works on usb.
Overall Review: fortunately I was using raid 1. I installed one drive from each unit into single drive enclosures and they are working fine with no data loss. All four drives passed diagnostics with no errors. So I'm positive the enclosures are defective, not the drives. After experiencing such a high failure rate, and reading similar reviews from others, I refuse to trust my data to replacement units from the manufacturer. I'll be looking for a new dual drive raid 1 enclosure to replace these.
wd red drives are my staple
Overall Review: wd red drives are my staple for my NAS QNAP devices. lasting and reliable. HGST was my preferred drive only because cheaper. but WD cancelled the brand after buying company. so now i buy WD red or Toshiba NAS drives for my NAS. depending on price on any given day. i do not trust Seagate brand.
