Beastly

Intel Core i7-5960X - Core i7 4th Gen Haswell-E 8-Core 3.0 GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W Desktop Processor - BX80648I75960X

Pros: -8 hyperthread cores that can be pushed to 4.5 GHz on decent water coolers.

Cons: -Cost. Gotta pay to play

Overall Review: Got this proc in an Asrock X99 Extreme11 with 3GHz Ram and four r9 280x's all overclocked. She absolutely devours physics processing and heavy work. 4.6GHz is the limit of usability. Sometimes it'll post sometimes it won't. She's stable at 4.5 and 1.28 Vcore however. Tears through games and video rendering like its a joke. Transcodes 2hr 1080p video in 10-15 min. My temps are 28c idle/69c max load with 18c ambient air temps and Suzuki sidekick radiator

Works for about 1.5 yrs

Rosewill RSV-S8 - 8-Bay 2.5" & 3.5" Hot-Swappable RAID Storage Enclosure System Bundled with PCIe Controller Card - 120mm Cooling Fan, Port Multiplier, Tray Design, RAID 0 / 1 / 5 / 10 / 5 + Spare / S
Rosewill RSV-S8 - 8-Bay 2.5" & 3.5" Hot-Swappable RAID Storage Enclosure System Bundled with PCIe Controller Card - 120mm Cooling Fan, Port Multiplier, Tray Design, RAID 0 / 1 / 5 / 10 / 5 + Spare / S

Pros: When paired with a good ESATA card you can get excellent read and write speeds. I could steadily hit 800Mbps across gigabit ethernet for both read and write.

Cons: I have two of these. Both of them will not operate with all 8 trays populated after about a year and a half of use. I feel like the ESata sockets on the back of the enclosure may be the culprit. After swapping ports several times sometimes it'll work and sometimes it won't. I have both of them attached to a FreeNas PC for my personal file server. 4 2TB HDDs in each of them. I would like to have 16 but alas these enclosures won't do it anymore. I purchased a SATA to ESata expansion slot and will be gutting the internals to attempt isolate it down to the ESata sockets on the enclosure. I have tried every possible HDD configuration, swapped ports, swapped ESata cards, and swapped ESata cables. You'll know when yours is broken because 1 bank will flash off and restart constantly when under load. Also after about 9 months of use on the first enclosure the fan died. I had to replace it which required some splicing as the fan does not use the standard fan connector (molex 4 pin, or Fan 3 pin).

Overall Review: Don't think I'm going to buy another Rosewill enclosure which sucks as both performed well until they started to fail and I don't want to run a bunch of 4 bay enclosures.

Almost unlimited space for water cooling

Corsair Obsidian Series 900D (CC-9011022-WW) Black Brushed Aluminum and Steel ATX Super Tower Computer Case ATX (not included) Power Supply
Corsair Obsidian Series 900D (CC-9011022-WW) Black Brushed Aluminum and Steel ATX Super Tower Computer Case ATX (not included) Power Supply

Pros: -Massive. Plenty of space for disks, cards and water cooling equipment -Excellent Cable routing options -Dual power supply capable for lunatics like me with quad Xfire

Cons: 1. Expansion card rear mount is obstructed and impossible to reach with a straight screwdriver. There is a supplied 90 degree Phillips but it is still very hard. 2. No holes in the top of the case for external radiator coolant hoses. This case is large enough to mount a conventional radiator internally so its not a problem to all but the most insane water cooling rigs.

Overall Review: Excellent Case

Good Ram Fans

G.SKILL FTB-3500C5-D Fans
G.SKILL FTB-3500C5-D Fans

Pros: Not very loud. I would notice since my system has a huge watercooling loop and runs silent as a fish tank when idling.

Cons: -Led Variety I wish there was more color variety for the LEDs like blue, red, or none but this does not affect function.

Works well in Asrock X99 extreme11

G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Desktop Memory Model F4-3000C15Q-16GRK
G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Desktop Memory Model F4-3000C15Q-16GRK

Pros: -High speed

Cons: Full speed requires turning up the base clock (BCLK). This was a new concept to me but no fault of the ram. Just took a little more research and tuning to get it there.

Overall Review: Using this ram in an Asrock X99 Extreme11 board with a 5960x cranked up to 4.5GHz and the ram at 3000MHz. Took some doing but I got it to work. I'm very pleased.

Works well in Quad crossfire build

ASRock X99 Extreme11 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock X99 Extreme11 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Four PCI-E X16 slots Ridiculous disk capacity socket 2011v3

Cons: -Bios layout not ideal for overclocking. Vcore is not in the voltage menu. -Board pwr HDD light and Reset jumpers need to be moved for quad GPU configurations. I had to bend the pins at a 45 degree angle to clear the last VGA card.

Overall Review: I've got a pretty unusual build. 5960x OC @ 4.5GHz water cooled 2x 7970 DCII OC 1200 MHz water cooled 2x R9 280x OC 1200 MHz water cooled 16GB Gskill DDR4 Ram @ 3000MHz I went to this board from an Asrock X79 extreme11 for the DDR4 ram and 2011v3 socket because my game rig was cpu bottlenecked. This was just the ticket. After wrestling with the bios to actually find Vcore settings I was able to get my system stable at 4500 Mhz with 3000 Mhz ram and all VGA cards cranked to 1200MHz. The water cooling required for this kind of thing is a little extreme however so its not for the faint of heart. I use it for 5760x1080 eyefinity gaming on 40 inch displays and media creation.
