a bit hot

ASRock 880GM-LE AM3 AMD 880G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
ASRock 880GM-LE AM3 AMD 880G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: This little board worked well right out of the box. It is compatible with Phenom xII 1005 (six core, 125w) without bios upgrade, however I did upgrade the bios from Asrock's website after getting the system up and running. Bios has lots of OC options. No driver problems in XP.

Cons: The MOSFETS get pretty toasty running the six core on a stock HSF. No stability issues, but I am concerned about longevity. Just to be sure, I have ordered some tiny MOSFET heatsinks from Newegg.

Overall Review: I usually steer away from micro ATX boards, but on this build I needed a mini tower. Overall I'd buy this board again. The heat issues can be resolved with air movement or a less power hungry processor.

aux input broke

PYLE AUDIO PMP3R2 NEW MOBILE / CAR SD USB MP3 PLAYER WITH FM TRANSMITTER - RED
PYLE AUDIO PMP3R2 NEW MOBILE / CAR SD USB MP3 PLAYER WITH FM TRANSMITTER - RED

Pros: fm modulation had decent sound. styling is nicer than most inexpensive competitors. plays SD MP3s.

Cons: 3.5 mm jack is useless and as a result I can't use it as intended (to play music from my MP3 player). This appears to be a design defect (I'm not the only one to experience this issue). Can't fast forward through songs when playing from SD card.

Overall Review: Broken AUX input defeats the fundamental purpose of this device. I would not buy again.

Acer G5 G215HVBbd Black 21.5" 5ms Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor200 cd/m2 ACM 20,000:1 (600:1) No

Pros: No dead pixels, works fine. Color is good.

Cons: Not a problem for me, but the viewing angle is somewhat narrow.

Overall Review: I use this monitor on my desk at work. The viewing angle isn't an issue for me because I am sitting right in front of it.

TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 Dual Band Wireless N600 Router, Gigabit, 2.4 GHz 300 Mbps + 5 GHz 300 Mbps, 2 x USB port, IP QoS, Wireless On / Off Switch

Pros: working now

Cons: wasn't working before

Overall Review: This is an update to my earlier 2 star review. The wireless signal was very weak to my son's XP machine, but acceptable for my daughter's Win8 machine. I updated my son's machine to Win8 and the problem subsided. I also changed the channel width to 20Mhz which had very little impact. Now my rating is 4 stars.

it works

HooToo HT-WR01 Wireless N 300 Mbps 802.11 b/g/n Access Point / Signal Repeater / Range Extender (White)

Pros: Easy setup using wizard. Not so much if you try to set-up manually. Goo range. Fixed my son's WI-FI signal, was "very weak" @ 130 MBS, now "high" @ 300 MBS.

Cons: none so far

lov'n it

ASRock A785GM-LE AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G + SB710 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Built new Windows 8 system for my daughter using a Phenom 9600 that I had sitting around. Works like a charm. No hiccups at all. The onboard video is Ok, but I added a Radeon 5450.

Cons: None really.

Overall Review: The system isn't intended as a gaming rig. It plays Minecraft without any lag or errors. Win 8 runs smoothly (I use Classic Shell for the Win 7 look/feel). I have done 10+ builds with ASROCK boards. They are my new favorite.
