As long as the quad-core processor has either an AM2, AM2+, or AM3 socket. the number of cores a processor has is irrelevant to the processor compatibility. If your socket is supported, then everything about that processor (from cores to cache and beyond) should be compatible. Hopethishelps, goodluck!

the specs tab says 8 for max ram. with only 2 ram slots. i got this to fix a computer with some older parts, and money was very tight so no upgrades could be made to more current hardware. the only problem with it has been only having 2 ram slots. the old bored had 4 so i had to shelf 2 gigs of ram.

Yes, this mother board is Windows & Compatible.  I'm running 2 of these motherboards in a couple company computers.  One is running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, and the other is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Many of the drivers, Windows 7 was able to find natively.

I have an old AD Athlon 64 x2 processor ( I think it is the 5000+)
Is this CPU compatible with this motherboard? I have seen posts where boards are not backward compatible with processors.

yes the list of cpu are available at the asrock website link on the detail page below. also what a nice surprise that this board i got came with the latest bios update. i have already tested this board with Haiku-OS, Linux-Mint, Linux-Ubuntu and all run well. i got this because i had old memory and and a 64x2 cpu to use and here it is better than expected.

Will Windows 7 run on this, using amd athlon 64 3500 2.2ghz am2 processor?

you can go to the asrock website and download their. i think asrock has one of the most dependable websites. and yes it will work with anything it seems. i have personally tested this with: win7(64); ubuntu; mint; Haiku-OS. i saving coin to buy more of these. i use win7(64) mainly. from newegg it comes with bios already updates so it is 6 core ready with a label on the box. very very very practical mobo. also they had sense enough to make parallel port available but not with that bulky header connector since most all now use usb for printing. very long upgrade curve, obviously designed for long haul.

Question 7

Is this ASRock MB compatible to use in place of a MicroATX MB in my HP tower PC (a6600z)?  The size is different.  The existing [ASUS M2N68-LA (IVY8)] MB is 9.6" X 9.6" will this ASRock MB is 9.6" X 7.8".  The CPU is the same (AM2).

I have no familiarity with the ASUS board, but I think it should work. Mounts are in standard locations so mounting shouldn't be an issue. I would double-check the cable connectors (you probably already have), to be sure they'll reach. ASRock kind of shrank the layout on the board, and not everything is in the "usual" location.

Note: there is only 1 IDE connector, if that's important to you. I miss the 2nd connector for working on older hardware.

I'm using it in a test set-up and have had no problems with Windows 98, XP, or Linux so far, so I'm happy with it.

I have an older amd phenom x3 8450 processor from 2006 i robbed off an old machine with a blown mother board. WIll this be compatible?  I prefer a micro atx because it will fit in the case i already have.

If when you say "phenom x3 8450" you mean a Phenom II X3, then it will work according to product specs.  Or, if you mean a Phenom 8450 (AM2+) then it will also work.  The "x3" is a designation for the number of cores; not part of the model number.  Either way, it looks like it should work.  From product specs: "CPU- Support for Socket AM2+ / AM2 processors: AMD... Phenom™..."  CPU support for Socket AM3 processors: AMD Phenom™ II X4 / X3 / X2 and Athlon II X4 / X3 / X2 processors"  I used an Athlon 64 X2 AM2 from an older HP Pavilion, using old memory and drive, which actually booted to Windows 7 first try on the new mobo.  I installed the Asrock drivers and it's been a great replacement board, extending life of HP desktop.

I have a rs690m03-8ekrhfs2h motherboard in my computer now. Will the motherboard work in my computer? Since I can not purchase the same exact one since it discontinued. my computer is a acer espire am3100-u3202a AMDx2 thanks

Hey Anthony. I actually purchased this motherboard for exactly the same reason.

I looked up the specs on your Acer and I do believe that this motherboard will suit you. They both accept DDR2 SDRAM memory and Socket AM2/AM2+ processors, and those are the keys to motherboard compatibility.

i noticed in the specs for the board's ram speeds, there is an asterisk on the 1066.  Why is that??

The manual for the motherboard states "Whether 1066MHz memory speed is supported depends on the AM2+ CPU you adopt.  If you want to adopt DDR2 1066 memory module on this motherboard, please refer to the memory support list on our website for compatible memory modules."

I think as long as you are putting AM2+ or AM3 you should be fine with 1066, I'm using AM2+ with 1066.
