Most Favorable Review

pretty good; lots of logical drives

SABRENT CRW-FLP2 All-in-one USB 2.0 Floppy Drive and 68in1 Internal Memory Card Reader & Writer - SDHC/VISTA
SABRENT CRW-FLP2 All-in-one USB 2.0 Floppy Drive and 68in1 Internal Memory Card Reader & Writer - SDHC/VISTA

Pros: Tested the Floppy, USB and SDHC drives and all work. Nice looking; indicator lights not obnoxious. USB cable is about 16" long; no problems for my case and mobo. Cards inserted upside down (not the floppy_ - weird, but ok - and stick out of slot when in use (necessary for removal, I guess).

Cons: The screw/mounting holes are too small in diameter for my toolless mounting clips and they were also positioned in the wrong place on one side of drive, for my slot. So mounting this unit with the usual triangular mounting clips may be tough. This unit adds 1 floppy (A) and 4 usb logical drive letters (C, D, E, F). That means my XP install to the HD was labelled as drive H (the CD drive took drive G letter). You can't rename that main bootable drive letter in XP so I guess I have to disconnect this unit, reinstall XP, then install this unit, in order to get the desired C: designation for my main HD partition. no instructions about any of this with unit.

Overall Review: The screw holes in the sides of this unit are plastic and so the mounting screws are like wood screws, not machine threaded. Secure enough with all 4 screws in though. Very tight fit in my floppy slot.

not that great

ASUS VH242H Black 23.6" 5ms HDMI Full 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ASCR 20000:1 (1000:1) W/Speakers
ASUS VH242H Black 23.6" 5ms HDMI Full 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ASCR 20000:1 (1000:1) W/Speakers

Pros: photos look decent, but I've seen as good elsewhere. No dead pixels.

Cons: I bought this monitor after reading all these rave reviews and now I regret it. The display of text is not good. The text labels on the XP menus look particularly ragged. And now I see it's non-returnable by Newegg.

Overall Review: My brother just bought an Acer H233H and it is better than this for photos and text for about the same price. After several bad Mboard experiences with Asus, I'm done with them.

Beautiful, if you get one that works.

HP 25ER 25" IPS LED Full HD Monitor 1920 x 1080 6ms VGA 2 x HDMI Ports 250 cd/m2

Pros: excellent sharpness and color glossy screen included hdmi cable. price.

Cons: I bought this one 25ER and a refurb 25ES. Am now on my 3rd RMA between the 2. Weird spots and pink lines, display blacking out and coming back randomly. Slight resistance from Newegg about their paying return shipping (they did eventually).

Overall Review: Test it thoroughly early on since RMA period AND WARRANTY is short.

missing standoff for mATX?

RAIDMAX Cobra Z ATX-502WBU Black / Blue Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
RAIDMAX Cobra Z ATX-502WBU Black / Blue Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: not sure since the Con mean I couldn't finish the build.

Cons: I tried to put a Gigabyte H97M-D3H mATX board in this case and there is no standoff hole available for the rightmost board mounting hole. If the I/O panel is on the upper left, it's the mounting hole at "4 o'clock". I think this is very popular, typical board so I feel like I'm missing something. Am I supposed to tap my own standoff hole?

Installation is not so easy?

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

Pros: unknown

Cons: I'm rather lost. From reading these reviews I got the impression you just pop the install DVD in your drive and install away. Apparently not. Instead you must download some OPK software from the MS website and do a pre-install on a second operational computer which creates an "Answer File" and other settings which you must transfer to your destination computer. I don't have a 2nd computer and I can't use my computer at work for this.

Overall Review: Microsoft support person confirmed all of this (altho she had to go learn it during our call). There is no mention of this on the newegg description of this product. Oh, and OEM software is non-returnable at newegg even if it's still sealed. I don't feel gypped at all.

firmware update no go

Pros: seems to burn ok, based on 2-3 burns. rather quiet. cheap.

Cons: when I tried to update the firmware, I got this error message: "HDLS Common Flash tool has encountered a problem". Also, LG Knowledge Base article on how to see your current firmware version described a pathway thru Device Manager which I don't think exists for XP; never could find display of current firmware version. I found a "Firmware Revision" display in Properties, Details, but it was blank. whatever.

Overall Review: should have stayed with Pioneer; my last one was a workhorse. Felt trying something different; dumb.
