I shopped long before I bought this

SAMSUNG 24" Active Matrix, TFT LCD WUXGA Height Swivel tilt & pivot Adjustable LCD Monitor 5 ms 1920 x 1200 D-Sub, DVI-D 2443BWT-1
SAMSUNG 24" Active Matrix, TFT LCD WUXGA Height Swivel tilt & pivot Adjustable LCD Monitor 5 ms 1920 x 1200 D-Sub, DVI-D 2443BWT-1

Pros: I shopped long and hard for a new monitor. I demanded a 16:10 aspect ratio so the choices for a mid price, mid size monitor were very few. I worried about the 5ms response time, but I believe this is black to black so it probably compares well to grey to grey specs. Anyway, it looks great in games, no blurring or streaking, extra extra bright, no dead pixels, a great vertical height adjustment and nice controls and menu.

Cons: The vertical viewing angle is not good. Horizontal is OK though, but with the monitor squarely in front of me and the center of the screen exactly at my eye level, the top 2 inches of the screen is darker than the rest of the screen. In order to get a fairly uniform screen brightness I had to place the centerline of the monitor a full 3 inches off from eye level. Not really a deal killer but enough to take off a star from an otherwise perfect monitor. I used Plug and Play monitor selection. The drivers on the supplied disk did not work on my Win XP 32bit OS, nor did the one I downloaded from the Samsung website. No biggie here. Samsung has always had monitor driver issues.

Overall Review: I bought this somewhere else where I could return it or exchange it if it was defective at no cost to me or re-stocking fees. I just didn't want to take a chance on getting a bad one (or two).

Didn't fit

ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler

Pros: Looks like a nice product.

Cons: Didn't fit my EVGA 132-YW-E179-A1 motherboard. There was no clearance at the boards chipset cooling system that encircles the CPU area for the clip that holds it down.

Overall Review: Overkill on the holddown spring construction and tension?

Pure Junk

Turtle Beach Ear Force Z2 PC Stereo Gaming Headset
Turtle Beach Ear Force Z2 PC Stereo Gaming Headset

Pros: Sounded great ...... while they worked. Long cable length.

Cons: The wiring around the quick disconnect and the volume control broke internally after a few months use. I treated this headset gently and carefully and never twisted or abused them in any way. They were always left connected, never unplugged. Very cheap construction and the wiring is the downfall of this product. This is my last Turtle Beach purchase.

Rock solid!

EVGA 132-YW-E179-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 790i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
EVGA 132-YW-E179-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 790i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: I chose this EVGA board because of the great things I heard about them while researching components for my newcomputer build. I've always used Asus but they don't seem to be too popular in the community right now for high end builds. Now that I think of it, my last Asus was never really super stable anyway. I put a core 2 duo CPU on it with raid 0 storage, GSkill ram and 2 EVGA GTX 260 Video cards. Everything went together easily and it's running stable and solid as a rock from the first boot. The only trouble I had was not realizing that Win XP doesn't have the necessary raid drivers to install the OS. After searching the EVGA website I found the drivers, downloaded them to a floppy and used F6 during the XP install to load the raid controller drivers.

Cons: They coulda threw in a floppy in the box with the RAID drivers. If you don't have another computer to download and make one from their website you're gonna have trouble using RAID or SATA.

Overall Review: Exactly what I was looking for. Solid running, no quirks.
