Supports Vista ReadyBoost
Pros: Supports Vista's ReadyBoost immediately, no hassle. No installed software- just a blank thumbdrive. Exactly what I needed. Large size, excellent speed, good price, easy on the bling bling. Want fries with that?
Cons: none
It died
Pros: It was great while it lasted. I used it for about 2 months, all at my desk. No keychain use or other rough treatment. It spent a lot of time as a ReadyBoost drive in my desk machine. Worked great and I gave it 5 eggs in an earlier review ... but ...
Cons: ... today it died. Is not detected in 4 different systems, including 2 where I know it did work before. So I'm gonna have to ask for 4 of those eggs back!
I like it. Can't boot from USB3 though.
Pros: I like this little system. I put it together with a Celeron G1840, Crucial's CT2K8G3S160BM 16GB ram kit, an ADATA ASP310S3-64GM-C G^GB m-sata SSD to boot from, and a Crucial CT512MX100SSD1 512GB sata SSD. Everything came together flawlessly, and the system booted fine once I installed Windows Server 2012R2 Datacenter Core. I added the Hyper-V role and imported a few VMs (already on the 512GB sata drive which I had pulled from another system). I mounted the system on the wall in a closet (love that VESA mount!) It is running well. I will update this review if I run into any issues or oddities.
Cons: The system seems unable to boot from either of its USB3 ports. I tried multiple bios settings in hopes of finding a way, but none worked. However it booted without problem from USB2. The paper manual is a bit thin. I would have appreciated having BIOS documentation on paper. I confess I did not look at the included CD. As others have noted, MSI are being stingy about the screws and rubber grommets. They should have included another set. In spite of these minor complaints I have given the system a 5 star rating.
Overall Review: The motherboard is MSI's H81TI ... this really should be in Newegg's tech specs.
Useful device. Software limited.
Pros: +The "drivewire" device is great - USB to SATA, IDE, mini-IDE all in one simple gadget.
Cons: - EZ-GIG software in the package is outdated (E3-GIG3 in package, but EZ-GIG4 available via download). - EZ-GIG software cannot do partition copies, only whole-drive copies. EZ-GIG4 adds ability to trim out some files from a disk-to-disk copy, but still does not allow selection of partitions for cloning.
Overall Review: I had a situation where the laptop had a single 320GB hard drive, with 3 partitions: 100MB for Win7's WinRE/boot, 100GB for OS/apps, 220GB for everything else. Wanted to clone the WinRE and OS/apps partition to an SSD. Neither EZ-GIG3 nor EZ-GIG4 had this ability. It wants to clone the whole disk; with EZ-GIG4's "data select" option there is the ability to sect some folders to be excluded from the clone, but that wasn't going to cut it for this operation. I needed to select specific partitions. I would have thought this would be easy, but the included Apricorn software simply does not allow it. So keep this in mind! (I ended up using the free 'EaseUS Todo Backup' which did a splendid job.) However, the 'drivewire' device itself is an excellent and reasonably priced addition to my toolkit. I am certain I will use it often. Or at least, until they come up with a USB3 or Thunderbolt version of it!
Good price, good RAM
Pros: Is working great. I really don't see why people buy 'fashion RAM' when deals like this are available.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: Great way to build a lowcost VMware ESXi system!
