Most Favorable Review

It works

Seagate Momentus 5400.6 ST9500325AS 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive
Seagate Momentus 5400.6 ST9500325AS 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: High capacity. It's working well in an external case, with pretty heavy use.

Cons: None in the context of a USB external case.

Overall Review: I suspect this drive doesn't have very good transfer rates, but I can't measure that effectively with the case I have. For an internal drive (or eSATA, or whatever) that would be more of an issue.

Most Critical Review

Disconnects (a lot)

Koutech IO-EEU330 3.5" Black SATA-I/SATA-II/SATA-III USB 3.0 External Enclosure w/ One-Touch Backup

Pros: Attractive Aluminum Paperweight :) Honestly, the case styling/size/weight are nice, it's easy to switch drives, drives are held securely, and it has a hard power switch, which is a big plus. The AC adapter is nice and small compared to some. If the problems below are unique to my unit, then other copies of this model might be pretty good drive cases.

Cons: Disconnects constantly, including during drive use. I tested it with 3 different hard drives, on 2 computers with 3 OSs (Mac 10.6, Ubuntu Maverik. Win 7), using several cables (including the included USB 3 cable). It would always disconnect at least once an hour, and disconnects got more frequent with use. It is now disconnecting every 5 minutes or so and is therefore quite useless. It has damaged a few drive partitions by disconnecting during active writes (the physical drive was OK, but required a reformat).

Overall Review: Neither of my machines is USB 3.0 (I bought this case so I could keep using it after a future upgrade). It is possible that the case would work better with a USB 3.0 machine, but it reports USB 2.0 backward compatibility, so I am still annoyed with it. Also, the symptoms sure seem more like overheat, short, or loose connections rather than a problem with the USB protocol (and this case is not USB bus powered). It was cheap, so I'll hang on to it until I can test it on USB 3.0, I guess.

Poor QA

Nippon Labs Model MINIDP-HDMI-3 3 ft. Mini DisplayPort to HDMI® 3ft 32 AWG Cable M-M 3 feet- OEM
Nippon Labs Model MINIDP-HDMI-3 3 ft. Mini DisplayPort to HDMI® 3ft 32 AWG Cable M-M 3 feet- OEM

Pros: A good size, and a very useful cable type. Much nicer to use than a male mini-display to female HDMI adapter + HDMIcable

Cons: I own 2. One works great. The other worked OK for a month or so, then started showing a lot of noise, and now doesn't work at all. So, this _can_ be a great product, but it looks like some of them shipped that weren't so great.

Overall Review: From playing around with the cable while it was still partially working, I think the failure was in the HDMI plug housing. Applying some tension to the plastic molding around this plug removed the noise from the cable, for a while.

Very usefull

Verbatim TUFF-'N'-TINY 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive 97465
Verbatim TUFF-'N'-TINY 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive 97465

Pros: High capacity Very small size attaches to a keychain nicely, with a flexible loop which makes it easy to put in a usb port while still on the keychain. Transfer speeds are OK. Reliable, so far. It can fit in just about any usb port, even when there's an oversized plug stuck in the next port over.

Cons: Gets rather hot during long transfers. Isn't the fastest USB stick I've used

Overall Review: It's very convenient to have a USB key around at all times. It does get pretty hot. I wouldn't be shocked to discover that if I tried to write 32 GB in one burst it would get pretty slow and might get damaged. I haven't tried to write more than 4GB at once. It claims to be water and dust proof. I haven't had any issues with it riding around in my pocket with no cover, but I also haven't tried to submerge it or anything like that to test this claim.

Functional

Crucial 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1333 (PC3L 10600) Laptop Memory Model CT51264BF1339
Crucial 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1333 (PC3L 10600) Laptop Memory Model CT51264BF1339

Pros: It is as advertised. It works. It doesn't overheat. More RAM is useful.

Cons: It doesn't make my laptop lighter or sexier. It also doesn't increase my HD capacity (fortunately, since I don't have an Apple virtual memory setup, it doesn't _decrease_ my HD capacity either). I can't tell if it looks awesome, since my case is opaque.

Overall Review: There really isn't much for laptop RAM to do, besides work. I guess I could run some performance tests to see if it's fast. I haven't done that. My machine seems pretty responsive, and I am definitely using the extra 4GB some of the time.

Very annoying for sustained transfers

Rosewill RNX-N300X IEEE 802.11b/g, IEEE 802.11n Draft 2.0 (PCI Interface) Wireless Adapter (2T3R) Up to 300Mbps Wireless Download Data Rates 64/128-Bit WEP, WPA PSK and WPA2 PSK (TKIP and AES)

Pros: It works, sometimes. Configuration, such as it was, was easy in Arch Linux and Win 7. It reports good signal, and seems to function fine for low-bandwidth uses, such as light browsing or ssh connections.

Cons: Any large, sustained transfers, such as git clones of large repositories or system updates, drop repeatedly. The connection drops start up after 15-20 minutes of load, and require re-starting the connection. If it is repeatedly restarted, the drops occur with increasing rate until they are nearly continuous. It seems as though the card has a heat management problem, or some similar issue that increases with load. Anyway, for occasional use it's all right, but for high-bandwidth use it's nearly worthless. I expect this would apply to any high bandwidth uses (e.g. streaming video, etc), although I've only noticed the issues with git, rsync, and my package manager.
