Great all arounf PMP

Creative ZEN X-Fi 2.5" Black 32GB MP3 / MP4 Player With Wireless LAN
Creative ZEN X-Fi 2.5" Black 32GB MP3 / MP4 Player With Wireless LAN

Pros: Newegg customer service is very good. I am using Zen every day and night - music is an integral part of my life. Great sound quality, intuitive menu, Centrale music file transfer software is more stable than Zen explorer, very good battery life, much more sturdy than Zen 32. I use Lentek buds which are excellent, they are better than Creative's EP830 bundled with the X-Fi, though they are good. Configurable user menu is great. Video quality is very good, more formats than most other PMPs; Speaker is good, calendar and voice recorder useful, FM tuner needs a strong signal. This PMP is based on the Freescale Sigmatel STMP3700 PMP chip, X-Fi is accomplished in software to save power. Overall better than 5 top PMPs I looked at - I was on the edge about Cowon, however Nearest competitor: Cowon D2 16GB limited to F500 folders and 6000 files: Internal memory 3000 files and folders, external memory: 3000 files and folders. I have 6300 files on Zen's internal memory and 1.7 GB free.

Cons: Slide on/lock/off button on back is slippery and very difficult to use, long battery life only when slider is in locked position and display is off - firmware should change to add a display shut off timeout in unlocked mode. Would be better to integrate SD card however challenges in file allocation table limitations and boot up time may be prohibitive. FM tuner is weak but usable. Display is not transreflective and hard to read in sunlight.

Overall Review: A universal AC to 5V USB power supply with +3.3V on D+ (1K/2K Ohm) and D- 15K to ground is essential for traveling; minimum 500 mA to charge in ~4 hours. 2.4 A can charge in < 2 hours. I Hope Creative updates firmware with well thought out user suggestions. Creative Support responds.

Most Critical Review

Died after one year and a half

ZyXEL X-550 Xtreme MIMO Wireless Broadband Router IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g
ZyXEL X-550 Xtreme MIMO Wireless Broadband Router IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g

Pros: This is/was supposed to be reliable. The web interface was very good and intuitive. The firmware appeared to be very stable compared to some others I have used or setup; minimal or no spontaneous reboots The hardware FAILED after one and a half years. Bought an SMC. I have my old DLINK back from loaning it as a back up. I need a router that ships with good quality firmware, not a router that needs to be reprogrammed with third party firmware, or consistently reboots or persists in dropping packets; I do not have the time! This is one reason why I went with ZyXEL and now SMC, another is an intuitive web configuration interface.

Cons: Too bad for poor hardware reliability. ZyXEL is not as good as the SMC MIMO wireless router when using G-only mode in terms of distance and signal quality, and N mode. Both are about as stable. In N mode MIMO the SMC is noticeably better than the ZyXEL. I hope the SMC does not fail.

Overall Review: Most IT folks recommend SMC or Netgear, and sometimes Cisco if you can find one with the features you need at a reasonable price.

Excellent value, outstanding battery life, great keyboard and touchpad; VGA out

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-PU1X-BU Royal Blue Intel Atom N280(1.66 GHz) 10.1" WSVGA 1GB Memory 160GB HDD Netbook
ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-PU1X-BU Royal Blue Intel Atom N280(1.66 GHz) 10.1" WSVGA 1GB Memory 160GB HDD Netbook

Pros: Battery life is outstanding (a main reason for my purchase), display is crisp and color is great, wireless works well for me, N and G, ok sound, better than many (adjusting the EQ helps a lot). Touch pad is a great size and has comprehensive adjustments. VLC for movie viewing is working great. Sleeps on/off very fast, hibernate opens very fast. It will hibernate automatically if in sleep for a while; great for battery life. Power supply is small and easy to carry, very long cord length. Power management is great. It supports 1920 x 1200 32bpp on external DELL 24" using VGA out ! - it actually performs well on my Schematic CAD, Matlab, Mathcad and more. XP not Vista.

Cons: None really; it would be nice to have a low gloss display option but most all netbooks are the same (as well as the high gloss case); it has a touch pad on/off switch; it would be better to have a wireless on/off switch or be able to reconfigure this switch's function.

Overall Review: Newegg customer service is excellent !! The touch pad has many adjustments like momentum track-ball like motion and much more. The adjustments are critical for improving usability, in my opinion it is important to have a great touch pad because in a netbook you will use it a lot if your goal is mobility and lightweight portability. I use a 32 GB USB stick to load software on it by copying CD to the stick and running the install off the stick. Can watch movies from USB stick and memory card as well as the internal hard disk. 2GB patriot memory upgrade recommended.
