Fractal Design Define S Black Window Silent ATX Midtower Computer Case
Fractal Design Define S Black Window Silent ATX Midtower Computer Case

Pros: - Came with all hardware needed (I've received cases without some screws before...) - Very open design, not having 5.25 bays is a real case opener - Great price (I think) - Hard drive mounting is really good, I like the system used - Lots of options for fans, although right now I just have the one that came with it - Nice power button and lighting for it - Great labeling throughout the case... small things like which screw holes to use for certain form factor motherboards (mATX vs ATX, etc)

Cons: - Could use more up front USB ports, however I will say they are perfectly placed and convenient - The screw holes for my PSU didn't line up the greatest. Took a while to get it lined up good enough, even then I wasn't fully satisfied with how it sat at the end. I do not have any concerns the PSU will move, but everything else lined up so well I just had high expectations. - Wouldn't mind a full metal version, but then you get weight added - Could use SLIGHTLY more cabling room... was kind of a tight fit. I suggest a modular PSU if you don't already have one, will give you more breathing room.

Overall Review: Overall I rolled the dice on this one, I was waiting for a deal on the Carbide 540 but the pricing on this one was too good to not give it a shot. Glad I did - I think this layout suits what I was looking for a lot better and at a lower cost. I would seriously buy a few of these cases if I needed more.

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity (100315L )
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity (100315L )

Pros: Nice solid build, nice box that comes with all the required items (for me). Very simple. Ran well when I figured out what the problem was, but caused me to return the card.

Cons: I diagnosed what the issue was eventually. But let's describe the problem this card had from the get-go and how I diagnosed the issue. First thing I like to do is bench my card (just to bring out the fun I used to have). I noticed on EVERY bench program, it would lock up the program and all I could do was close. Everything from 3dm2k1 all the way up to 3dmk2k6 (I stopped after this one). I figure well maybe its just the older programs giving me issues or the fact they are bench programs in combination with being old. Turn on HL2 - a game I played very frequently on my 5770 so figured there would be no issue. Same problem. It would artifact, go blank and turn back on. So I moved on to SCII... yeah no shocker here guys, same/similar issues. I tried updating drivers, uninstalling and installing the previous set of drivers, etc. No luck. I uninstalled the drivers and this fixed my problems. The windows-selected drivers worked. The issue was that the AMD drivers caused the card

Overall Review: over heat. I figured this out using HWMonitor. I turned on SC2 and ran one of the cinematics and watched the card temp rise to 75c... this is when the monitor would turn blank for a few seconds, it would then turn back on (due to it having cooled off from turning off) and be at 65c and after 20-30secs it would go to 75c, rinse and repeat. When I used the windows selected drivers, it never went above 71c, which was just too close to the ceiling for me. If AMD's drivers can't keep the card where it should be, I'm not comfortable holding onto it until they fix the issue, because who knows if they will. So with the windows drivers it worked really well, but I can't keep a card where the company drivers might fry my card, which may have been why my 5770 started artifacting to begin with.

Wow it's been a year...

Pros: Plays *my* games at near max settings on a C2D machine... amazing. For the price it was excellent value. I also got the rebate without issue.

Cons: The drivers didn't work right from AMD's site. I had to let Win7 pick my drivers and it was smooth sailing. I just recently installed the latest 13.1 drivers and they seem to be working fine now.

So far so good

Pros: Does exactly what I bought it for at the price I wanted to pay. Good build quality and should last me years to come. Replaced a dying (but not dead!) Rosewill PSU that lasted me a good 5-6 years, about the lifespan I expect from a PSU. Would be nice to be modular but at this price point I don't expect it.

Cons: None so far.
