good card for the price
Pros: I have built 5 machines with this graphics card for students and myself. I run Solidworks, Alias, 3ds Max, etc... It does the job great! One i7 860 OCed to 3.8 ghz, two AMD PhenomII 945s, one AMD PhenomII 955, and a Core 2 Duo machine... they all run very well. All my friends trying to run Solidworks on their laptops or desktops with regular gaming cards struggle when their assemblies get more complex and my machine is still humming along just fine. Building in assembly mode kills them =p
Cons: Sometimes it seems that when switching from other programs back to Solidworks when I'm multitasking it takes a second or two for the card to kick back in as the assemblies will move real slow. After a couple seconds it will catch up and move smooth again. This on my i7 machine running xp 64 bit. I'm thinking it might have something to do with compatibility between SW09, XP, and the card, but its not a huge deal.
Overall Review: For the price you can't beat it! Eventually I am going to step up to the Quadro 1800 just to get that extra boost in performance, but for my uses now, it works just fine.
one word: cheap
Pros: easy to install i suppose
Cons: build quality is poor, i had to solder a couple connections back on. weak connections and solders from the factory
Overall Review: don't buy it.
it works fine!
Pros: I cannot comment on the RAID functionality yet as I have yet to utilize it in that manner, however standard functionality works well on eSATA with two different HDDs. I like the purpleish activity flash as opposed to the generic red.Or maybe it just appears purple because the blue never goes out. Simple push on/ push off button at the front. Build quality is well done. I like the gloss over matte finish on the front. The fan is quieter than my HTPC fans so I guess that counts as being quiet enough.
Cons: Lights are a bit bright, but that is pretty much the way of every computer device these days. Bright and blue. The foam on the inside used to stabilize the drives leaves a tiny bit of wiggle room, but it sits on top of my HTPC at all times so that isn't much of an issue.
Overall Review: I am using this simply as occasional redundant backup for my media drive (pictures, music, etc...) so it does not get heavy use. Eventually I will get a matching drive to store my movies are utilize this in redundant RAID to play all my media so it will get much heavier use. We'll see what happens then.
what else can be said?
Pros: It brought temperatures down at least 7c (full load running hour+ long CAD renderings) compared to my previously installed Corsair H50 and it fit in my Cooler Master Elite 430 case perfectly! Its quiet, but even if it was loud, it couldn't be louder than my 110 cfm exhaust fan.
Cons: I can't see my pretty Gigabyte Motherboard anymore =(
Overall Review: I was amazed that it fit in my case. I had to remove the top two 120mm fans I had installed but the height of the cooler blows the air straight through the rear exhaust so it flows nicely. I'm sure if I get some faster intake fans on my case I will get even lower temps. Everything you have heard is true. This thing is worth the cash. Just buy it. Noctua is the Rolls Royce of cooling. Rig: Intel i7 970 oc 3.68 ghz (now with more room to OC further) Gigabyte x58-ud3r motherboard 12gigs xms3 @ 1600 PNY Nvidia Quadro 2000 workstation graphics card Antec 650 watt PS 2x500 gig WD Caviar Black HDD (raid1) Cooler Master Elite 430 mid tower
great product for the price
Pros: I never even bothered to use the stock cooler on the two AMD PhenomII 945 workstations I built, so without that comparison I cannot say how much better it is than the stock cooler. It does in fact do its job very well. I tested absolute full load using a rendering program called Hypershot and with all cores working at 100%, the max temp was about 40-45 degrees C on a render that took over 2 hours.
Cons: On my third build, newegg was sold out of these... so I had to settle for something else that still worked pretty decently. This guy stands pretty tall. Smaller Mid ATX cases with fans on the side may experience interference. I had to mount fans outside the case instead so they stick out... but its still a great cooler.
not bad... but questionable..
Pros: Nice picture at a good price.
Cons: one stuck pixel on arrival, but not enough to get in a tizzy over. A couple months into useage, I noticed that the monitor had an unusually loud electrical humming sound along with what sounded like some light arcing (a static ticking sound). I did additional testing in a different room on a different circuit and could not replicate the result. So far back in its original spot, it has not made the noise again. So until it comes up again, I will just keep an eye on it.
Overall Review: I'm not one to complain when a product this cheap doesn't work absolutely 100% perfect. So far its doing just fine, we'll wait and see if anything comes from that sound.
