Basic memory, good value and performance

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBNT
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBNT

Pros: Runs at advertised clocks (5-5-5-15) at standard voltage, without having to do manual or "performance" setup. This is important, because many other makes and models of memory require special setup or don't actually run at advertised specs.

Cons: It doesn't make espresso :P Seriously, it's RAM. If it doesn't make errors and it performs as specified, there can be no cons.

Overall Review: No gimmicky heat spreaders. Heat spreaders are not the primary means of cooling memory, and they cost more and take up space. They don't make a difference unless you are going for a maximum overclock and have to run your memory overvoltage. If that is your game, this memory is not for you anyway.

Can do better for the price

Cooler Master N400 ATX Tower with Front Mesh Ventilation, Minimal Design, 240mm Close-Loop AIO Support
Cooler Master N400 ATX Tower with Front Mesh Ventilation, Minimal Design, 240mm Close-Loop AIO Support

Pros: Reasonable size for a large mid-tower, stylish and unobtrusive. Mix of USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports on the front panel is handy.

Cons: Poor at accommodating 2.5 inch drives and large GPUs. The caddy for 2.5 inch drives is poorly located and does not hold drives of ordinary size securely. It does not provide for screw mounting. Large GPUs will interfere with 3.5 inch drive slots and with cabling. Use of breakaway tabs for expansion slots and external cooler fittings is inexcusable even at this price.

Overall Review: Works well if you don't plan to install a large GPU and you get a 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch adapter for 2.5 inch drives. But you can do better in the same price range. Corsair 200R has none of these limitations.

Good choice for modest budget and power

AMD Athlon II X2 250 - Athlon II X2 Regor Dual-Core 3.0 GHz Socket AM3 65W Desktop Processor - ADX250OCK23GM
AMD Athlon II X2 250 - Athlon II X2 Regor Dual-Core 3.0 GHz Socket AM3 65W Desktop Processor - ADX250OCK23GM

Pros: Used this to upgrade from a Sempron LE-1640. I didn't want to go to a 95W TDP CPU, because it's in a little mini-ITX case with stock cooler and power supply. Ideal for that purpose.

Cons: Doesn't get hot enough to make tea.

Overall Review: This one was on the motherboard maker's compatibility list, and the 260 wasn't; otherwise I would have gone for the 260.

Good bargain case.

Rosewill R101-P-BK 120mm Fan MicroATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Rosewill R101-P-BK 120mm Fan MicroATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Small, lightweight, no-nonsense, solid microATX case. Lots of room inside, more than in any other strictly microATX case I've worked with. Drive mounts are screw type, solid, and well fit. You won't have to force drives in and out, or worry about bending the drive mount frame. No silly styling or garish LED fans or sloppy "tool free" mounts.

Cons: Only one real problem, and that is length of front panel cables. If the front panel headers on your motherboard are in an unusual location, they may not reach. I used an ASUS P5G41T-M, and the front panel LED wires are fully extended. Fit and finish of the left cover (of course, the one you have to remove most often) was so poor that the first two times I pulled it, I had to pry. It's still not quite square, or the case frame isn't, by 1 to 2 mm.

Overall Review: If 5 means "unqualified recommendation", I can't give it a 5. There's a lot to like about the case overall, but the short front-panel cables may make it not usable for some.
