Rosewill R101-P-BK 120mm Fan MicroATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Outstanding construction quality; large, quiet fan; very nice textured and durable finish

Cons: No space behind motherboard tray to hide wires; motherboard tray does not come out; lots of pop rivets holding it together (makes modding more difficult if you are into that kind of thing)

Overall Review: To put it all more succinctly: I have never seen a case of this caliber at this price point before, PERIOD. To put it all less succinctly: My customer ordered 3 computers from me, and 2 were going to be identical "cheaper" low-end machines and this is the case I used for both of them. I am just stunned at the fit/finish and quality for the price. In fact, if space is an issue around your desk, you could easily put a good 1155 or AM3+ MicroATX mobo in here along with almost any reasonably sized graphics card and up to 4 HDD's/SSD's for your RAID array. There is plenty of room for the PSU of your choice and even a 12cm radiator for water cooling if you really want to go crazy.

Pros: Basic micro-ATX mid-tower case with adequate features, build quality and attractive appearance. Case is spacious and easy to work in. Case can accommodate up to four internal harddrives, three 5-1/4 optical drives and two 3-1/4 inch drives. Case was well packed in double boxes with fore/aft Styrofoam supports which isolated the case. Case finish is matte-black lacquer finish of excellent quality. Front panel is made of ABS plastic of excellent fit and finish. Front panel not designed for regular removal. Right side panel was secured with two thumb screws for easy removal. Left side panel is removable but secured with screws that are replaceable with thumb screws. Case internals have folded over edges that lend strength and safety. Case comes with an easily removable generic motherboard rear panel shield. A serial port punch-out is also provided. A 120mm case fan is provided which moves a considerable amount of air through case. Case allows a second front mounted 120mm fan.

Cons: Motherboard is attached to indents on the motherboard pan instead of standoffs more expensive cases offer. This proved not to be a problem with motherboard grounding. Case internal structure and side panels are of 0.5mm steel while case back panel is heavier 0.7 mm steel. Despite this, case is light and remains sturdy. Nothing rattles after assembly. One card slot is open and only one slot cover is provided. This upper slot is normally occupied by a graphics card. Remaining card slots are closed with metal tabs twisted off when these slots are required. If you want to shield and open slot after removing a card, you have to provide slot covers. Instruction sheet is very minimalist, single page, measured 6 x 8 inches, and printed on cigarette paper. Case fan is an ARX FD1212-S31333E, a 120mm sleeve bearing fan rated at 2100 RPM, 73.7 CFM and 38 DD. This fan is audible and replaced with two Coolermaster R4-S2S-124K-GP 120mm fans rated for 1200 RPM, 44.7 CFM and 19 DB. It’s silent.

Overall Review: I am well satisfied with this case. It’s a nice case that I use for a low-power PC I keep off-line for privacy where I maintain a journal/diary and private correspondence. Case is attractive, looks good on my desk, and provides the basic functionality I need. I gave this case four eggs because it is not as nice as a Lian-Li or Silverstone case and I have to keep perspective. However, for $25 it’s hard to beat the value of this case. This case provided better value than the Thermaltake VI5000BNS which has identical case body and finish but a nicer front panel for about double the cost. I plan to buy more of these cases for private builds I do for friends and family.

Pros: Conservative look - no gaudy decorations. No worthless doors or optical drive covers. No chintzy tool-less frobnitzes that don't hold things in securely and have weird parts to lose--you just secure things with screws, the way nature intended. No sharp edges. Good airflow.

Cons: The included fan is a bit loud. Missing a motherboard mount point in one corner, but other nearby screws hold it secure.

Overall Review: It's a bit of a tight fit, but that's what you expect with a uATX case. I built a machine in this case with the Foxconn A7GM-S and Athlon X2 4850e.

Pros: I would like to retract my previous statements and concede that I am a moron. I realized later that the standoffs were just raised areas in the frame and conventional standoffs were not needed. Once I realized this the build went very smoothly and I had no issues with the case. It is actually quite nice for the price. Sorry Rosewill, hopefully Newegg will remove my earlier review.

Overall Review: I had to lower my tech knowledge a point for this one. What a rookie move... Learn a lesson from this one kiddies, don't fly off the handle and write a negative review before you're sure it's not just operator error.

Pros: The metal used is not the highest grade, but the case is very sturdy. It also did not have any sharp edges that I could find. The case is large enough that when installing the motherboard, CPU and other devices it has plenty of room. I have used the included 120mm rear fan with both builds and it is extremely quiet! I added an additional 80mm fan in the front of both cases for extra air movement and had plenty of room to install them.

Cons: I had to remove the installed I/O panel by twisting the metal off as well as PCI brackets. I then had to use a needle nose pliers to break of the nubs that were left, but the I/O backplates I used fit fine! I did have to use a snap in plastic stud with a foot on the lower front side of both motherboards, because the case did not have a stud for that screw hole, but this isn't the first case I've had to do that with.

Overall Review: I have built 2 computers with this case and for the money you cannot buy a better case. As another reviewer put is No chintzy worthless doors or optical drive covers that can break off; just the basic snap out drive bay covers. Everything I installed held securely using screws; good airflow.

Pros: Price. Versatility: 3 x 5.25" bays + 2 x 3.5" bays. 4 internal 3.5" hdd bays. Rear 120mm fan. Room to mount a regular thickness Corsair single - radiator H series liquid cooler (Yes, I did it. Haven't tried a double - thickness radiator.). Right side removable panel helps with cable management. Sturdier than it looks.

Cons: Looks, unless you want a workstation, for which it is ideal. Usually + $10 shipping. No front fan included. Limited front panel I/O. Doesn't make me waffles.

Overall Review: None of the cons listed are worth docking any eggs. They are to be expected in a value case. You get much more capability than you pay for here, especially if you wait for the occasional free shipping promo. As a system builder, this is my go-to base M-ATX case.

Pros: I've purchased a few of these cases for different budget builds and I'm not sure that I remember reviewing it. The reason for the review at this time is that I'm considering a case to buy as a demo/display model. This box is priced well for a budget build, and even shipping is within reason.

Cons: These Cons are only meant to highlight and make people aware of some potential problems. Not really cons, just things to be aware of- Front panel connectors are too short IMO.... they will work on many systems with a little re-routing of wires, but they could use a few more inches in length so that you don't have to coax the wires onto the pins or re-wire. I feel comfortable making that criticism because I have used this case on a number of builds---all with the same issue. The only other criticism---and it's my fault, but I do have to mention it so that others are aware- There are no standoffs, which is not too bad- although they include 1 for some reason.... the problem is that the screws for the motherboard look identical to other screws, but have a different threading. Make sure you separate the round head screws by thread so that you always pick up the right screw when installing the motherboard. Overall Review: Case fan details: - Included 120mm case fan is a ARX DC brushless, model # FD1212-S3133E. Approx 1800 rpm, 70CFM. Sleeve bearing, 3 pin. Can't find spec'd dBA, but would guess ~30+ dBA. - I replaced with two Kingwin CF-012LB fans ($5/ea, 950rpm, 19dBA). Barely audible. Moves plenty of air in my Sempron/RAID file server. Probably overkill, but I'm very happy :) - Both the front and back fan grills have pre-drilled screw holes for 120mm, 92mm, and 80mm fans. So if you don't want 120s or have another sized fan laying around, you should be able to fit them in this case. Hope that helps someone else.
