Good quality board for MythTV

ZOTAC GF9300-A-E LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9300 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
ZOTAC GF9300-A-E LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9300 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Built in Nvidia 9300 graphics, with HDMI, DVI and VGA. Low overall cost for this type of board (especially with recent rebate). Perfect fit for revamping my 4 year old MythTV system. I have it up and running with MythBuntu for a week using HDMI for video and audio without any major issues.

Cons: No display port has been talked about, but for my application, HDMI, DVI and VGA are more than adequate. Also, I did run into the issue that others had talked about regarding the strange issues detecting boot devices. Mine would not see the primary PATA harddrive, but it would it see my SATA drive that I had intended to use as storage only. I reset the plan and just used the SATA as I did not have time to figure out this issue. I also see a strange horizontal waviness in top 1/3 of the display when playing back with VDPAU. It only happens with motion in the frame and is only slightly annoying. I am hoping this is only a drive issue that will rectify itself. The board is more than adequate to playback without VDPAU with a E5200 and 2GB of RAM, but VDPAU is nice to offload to allow processor to do commercial marking and transcoding.

Overall Review: Again, an overall great system for a combined MythTV backend and front end. Newegg is still the best overall place to get hardware from. Keep up the good work.

Respectable Monitor

ASUS VE278Q 27" Full HD 1920 x 1080 HDMI VGA DisplayPort DVI-D Built-in Speakers HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor
ASUS VE278Q 27" Full HD 1920 x 1080 HDMI VGA DisplayPort DVI-D Built-in Speakers HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor

Pros: Adequate brightness, good color, generous inputs and decent speakers built in.

Cons: After working with side by side documents, having a 2560 x 1440 would make more sense. This is because 2560 is exactly double the pixel count of most 19" monitors out there. A page fits nice width wide on a 1280 wide monitor, but on a 1920 wide monitor, webpages and other windows don't fit without scaling. Really minor and not the fault of this monitor. Just something to think about when you are researching monitors.

Overall Review: This is not a con to this specific monitor, but I liked the days when most monitors came with height adjustments at decent prices. This monitor is too low on a normal desk and requires a booster seat to get to proper eye level for me and the wife.

Bargain memory with great rating

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ

Pros: Solid memory.

Cons: Other than being a tight fit in my Silvertek LC10 case with a Zotac GF9300-A-E board. Really not memory fault, nor am I sure any other memory would be better.

Overall Review: I bought this since there were so many similar memories on Newegg for similar prices, but this one had a very high rating and an award.

Good processor, great value

Intel Pentium E5200 - Pentium Dual-Core Wolfdale Dual-Core 2.5 GHz LGA 775 65W Desktop Processor - BX80571E5200
Intel Pentium E5200 - Pentium Dual-Core Wolfdale Dual-Core 2.5 GHz LGA 775 65W Desktop Processor - BX80571E5200

Pros: Excellent bargain processor for the price. Low power for the power.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: No need for me to go to anything like E6xxx or E7xxx or E8xxx for my MythTV system. Works great on commercial marking and transcoding.
