Good, as advertised.
Pros: Upon first opening the box, I was immediately impressed with the packaging. Initial impression was that this is a high quality well built, HEAVY motherboard. Excellent documentation, although there is a lot to read. Works very well with GSkill ECO memory. Lots of tweaks available through BIOS. Stable voltages and system operation. XMP works perfectly. Initial quality appears well worth the price. This is a well laid out motherboard and the on board power and reset are a nice although not necessary addition. Comes with 3 straight SATA cables and 3 90degree SATA cables, although the 90 bend is only on one connector end. With the exception of RAID settings and XMP settings this was the easiest setup I have built in a long while. If you want an I55 board, this should be on your list! Newegg got all my stuff delivered on time, THANKS NEWEGG!!! If you need to build an upscale system for someone who isn't technical, this looks to be a very stable and long lasting part.
Cons: Lots of tweaks available through BIOS! You have to really be careful with memory selection, read the QVL(Qualified Vendors List) before purchasing any memory!!!!!!!! Not sure if it is a CON, but I did have trouble accessing the ASUS website prior to purchase so I could look up the QVL. No eggs lost for any of this, just wanted to let potential buyers know not to be a noob about buying memory. Most people wouldn't even know about this board if they hadn't already done some research.
Overall Review: Decided to upgrade my P45 system. Running RAID 0 (2 Drives) and Raid 5 (3 drives), I transferred all components to the Sabertooth and fired it up. Set up Intel RAID in BIOS, and Windows 7 booted right away! Had to call Microsoft and re-activate software due to motherboard change, but after that, windows update grabbed the new drivers and everything is working!! The manual is over 100 pages with 5 pages of just QVL's! Using i7-860 and 2X2Gb G-Skill ECO DDR3 1600 CL7 memory it is very stable and runs cool. Max temp on CPU was 48C with stock Intel cooler. ATX board does not use all ATX mounting points, I had to remove one stand-off to avoid contact with the back of the board. Spacing on the PCIe x16 slots is excellent for video cards with large heat sinks or water cooling Crossfire/SLI will leave you with 2 PCIe 1x and 1 PCI slots available for add on cards if you have 2 slot video cards. XMP setup was flawless and set memory timings exactly to manufacturer specs.
Sketchy latch mechanism
Pros: Hefty design (internal), good fit, easy to install, front power button, bright dual colored activity LED's.
Cons: Front plastic is fragile feeling, latching mechanism sticks when trying to release HDD, no option for SDD use. Bright LED may irritate some. If any of these break, I won't buy this model again.
Overall Review: I bought 4 of these to use in multiple computers for data backups. Funcionally they work great, but trying to release the HDD's they all have a flimsy feel, and they don't release smoothly, eventually I estimate the latching mechanism will break at the front release door. If the front door/latch was made of aluminum or steel, this would be a great heavy duty unit. Funny part is that the power button is aluminum and feels like a quality unit! Since I am using it for occasional use, I don't worry too much, but if you are looking at doing weekly or more swaps of HDD's, this won't last too long before something breaks.
Pros: This is a great 80+ Gold Power Supply. The reviews are outstanding and the main reason I bought it was the performance and low ripple noise that they have. Running my mini ITX system with a GTX 970 and SSD with 1TB laptop drive this is a quiet, efficient unit. Well worth the money. I expect to get a lot of years out of this one.
Cons: Doesn't cook my breakfast.
Overall Review: I wanted to make my last build a quality one for the long haul. A quality Power supply is the key to keeping the rest of the system components happy and safe. This is one of the best lower power units that you can buy.
Great Card, Better Price
Pros: Works like any other 970, nice looks with dust plugs for every port. Great gaming performance and runs cool. Love this thing. Price was a bargain at 289.99!!
Cons: None, except for the slight coil whine, closed up in my case is no noise problem!
Overall Review: Got this to replace my GTX 760 in my ITX build, works great, fits perfectly and runs cool. Would definitely
Off to RMA
Pros: See Other Thoughts
Cons: See Other Thoughts
Overall Review: Sent off to Gigabyte today for RMA, I will post more on the experience, but for now I am satisfied that Gigabyte will honor the 3 yr warranty. Hopefully this is repairable and won't die again. I have high hopes that Gigabyte is on the upswing and ready to be a top tier company. Since this is the first motherboard that has ever died on me, the experience has been less than enjoyable, but I am optimistic that this was my 1% time and won't happen again anytime too soon.
