Battery life stinks
Pros: I needed some help from the customer service to activate the service. Past that, the service seems to be working fine
Cons: Battery life stinks: - The battery drains out even without a minute of use within 12-15 hours
Overall Review: The unit was supposed to be a part time use handset for my parents who are visiting me in US. They will have low usage and signing a contract would be too expensive. The free service from freedom pop was a pleasant surprise. The unit is probably not the greatest one but still is not an expensive one
Unstable
Pros: Fair range and gets coverage through the floor (2nd floor in our case). Reasonably priced
Cons: Goes off from time to time where only a hard rest can restore the wifi signal back (I may have to send this one for repair since the problem is persistent and have to reset on a weekly basis)
Overall Review: Probably good as a backup router, better to get a decent one if you are working from home
A number of functionalities are missing
Pros: I needed a network drive to access data and media within home network. The 2x2 drive is great for my needs.
Cons: 1. The sleep/wake functionality doesn't work if you try to use in conjunction with low power standby mode. 2. You cannot program the drives to sleep at morning and wake up. I wanted to program the drive to sleep at 7AM (7:00 hrs) and wake at 6:30 PM (18:30 hrs) but no, the lower value cannot be higher than upper value. 3. Due to the "feature" #1, my drive cannot enter a lower power standby in the idle hours (22:30 through 5:30) even if I wanted it to. 4. I am not sure how the drive replication works. I see that a total of two drives are present but I am assuming they self replicate to each other over regular intervals. The guidance is elementary and the interface doesn't go enough into details for me to review or configure. 5. Wake over lan command is something you need to create your own scripts for. For most people, they would have to go the hated way to hit the power button to wake the drives (if sleeping)
Probably my last purchase from newegg
Pros: The good thing, the hard drive works. . Some plus points, thanks to Seagate to that one though: the drive is GPT and performs inspite of a terrible packaging by newegg. I had initial problems loading vista and Ubuntu on the drive (as I intended) but later (after a month of trials) decided to load OS into an older 1TB MBR drive to ensure that the dual boot works. I use this partitioned drive now as data drive on my desktop computer
Cons: bad thing, this came just wrapped in a anti-static pack. I was under impression that this would be a retail box but no, newegg did a terrible job. customer service at newegg doesn't even want to respond back so was little value waiting over a month and half before me writing this review
good unmanaged switch
Pros: This switch works as expected: I needed additional ports for my LAN (connecting to NAS, surveillance system, media drives etc). The speed of 100MBPS is great but I never needed such a speed so I don't know if the speed is ever achieved (within the routes to the switch itself)
Cons: None
Probably an open box item
Pros: Nothing yet
Cons: I got the unit without the three things a. Manual or Driver Software b. Mounting screws c. Cables In most likelihood, this was an open box item or an returned item shipped to me. I had better expectations out of Pioneer/Newegg
Overall Review: I sent an email to Newegg yesterday night and yet to get an response back I wasn't able to mount the unit so I don't know if this is an working unit or not
Fair packaging, terrible customer service
I got the package within the estimated delivery time. That was good news. They charged higher than advertised price for which I sent email on and am yet to receive an response (more than 2 weeks). The packaging was fair. They shipped out on the same box that is used in retail store so the wet entryway where the shipment was left damaged the packaging quite a bit - there wasn't any assembly instruction anywhere other than the packaging. I had to check over internet to find the info and assemble. The customer service is terrible.
