Awesome DVD drive

Pros: -Burns DVD's great. Have only used it with a DVD backup program, no CD or DVD creator projects yet. The backup discs are playing with no problem on my DVD player.
Cons: -As other reviews have said, it is a bit noisy when it spins up, but doesn't really bother me.
Overall Review: -I looked online to see what the difference is between +/-...couldn't really find anything significant. When I bought my spool of DVD's at the store, the store associate said that there really isn't a difference when all you need to do is back up movies because most DVD players will work with both. -For anyone considering NewEgg for the first time, I highly recommend them! I accidentally bought a SATA model, thinking that the SATA power plug must be an ATA 133 data plug. NewEgg's online customer service chat representative was very helpful in getting me an RMA, and e-mailed me a UPS return label so I could send it back.
Kind of a hot drive

Pros: -Huge drive. Won't need any extra storage for a LONG time! -Bought this drive because of the eSATA port, which makes transfers much faster. I believe this drive says it can do SATA II (3.0 Gbps), but I searched all over and could only find PCI controller cards that do SATA I (1.5 Gbps). This drive is backward compatible with SATA I, but of course you only get the 1.5 Gbps. Still plently fast for my needs, though. -Haven't tried connecting this with USB, but other reviews have said the computer takes a long time to scan the files on the drive at startup when connected through USB. When connected by eSATA, it seems to recognize the drive differently and bypass the scanning step. If you get this drive and have an available PCI slot, get an eSATA controller card to go with it. -It is common for 2TB drives to actually have 2 1TB drives in them. Some reviews have said they had problems with the computer only recognizing 1 TB, but I have had no such problem with this drive.
Cons: -As other reviews have said, it does get pretty warm. Fortunately I don't use it for super long periods of time so it hopefully won't become a problem. After playing music from it for a few hours, it feels warm to the touch, but don't have a way of measuring exactly what temperature it is. Don't think I will take off any eggs for it, because I don't think it is warm enough to cause problems.
Overall Review: -Don't be alarmed when you pay for a 2TB drive and all it shows on your computer is 1.81TB. The 2TB is traditionally based on the power of 10, because that it easier for our human minds to visualize. 1KB is 1,000 bytes, 1MB is 1,000KB, etc. When you buy a 2TB drive, you are getting a little over 2,000,000,000,000 bytes. The computer handles the numbers a little differently, which causes a discrepancy in the numbers--but don't worry, you are getting what you paid for. -For anyone considering NewEgg for the first time, I highly recommend them! I recently ordered the wrong item by mistake. The online chat customer service rep was very helpful in getting an RMA, and emailed me a UPS label so I could return the item. They have also been MUCH faster at sending items compared to other places I have shopped recently. I wouldn't even mess with getting free shipping elsewhere, NewEgg has recently shown me that it is more worth it to get things from them and pay a couple of dollars for shipping.
Fits perfectly...after a little modification

Pros: -NEARLY plug and play. No problems with Windows detecting the new hardware, but I did have to use the included CD for the drivers, but no problem in set up (didn't need it for my Syba USB 2.0 PCI card that I also bought). Running XP Pro SP3 on an IBM NetVista 6791. -Some reviews have said they had problems with 2TB HDDs that have 2 1TB disks in one case. I bought the Fantom 2TB Green drive from NewEgg, and have had no such problem.
Cons: -Syba makes their mounting brackets too long! About an inch too long on the top, and 1/2 inch on the bottom. Not taking any eggs off for it though, because this is an extremely easy fix if you have a pair of tin snips. -SATA I, not SATA II (1.5 gB/s, not 3 gB/s). Makes transfer rate slower, but so far it is plenty fast for my needs.
Overall Review: -Should have bought from NewEgg and paid a few dollars for shipping. Got free shipping by buying elsewhere, but delivery was EXTREMELY slow from the other guys. Hope my external HDD doesn't go bad in 30 days because NewEgg wouldn't be able to give me an RMA! -Maybe the bracket length problem is because my NetVista is horizontal rather than vertical? I would be interested to know if vertical towers have the same problem. -For anyone considering NewEgg for the first time, I highly recommend them! I recently purchased a SATA DVD drive, only to find out that I only have PATA connections in my computer. The customer service rep on the online chat was very helpful and quickly got me an RMA and a paid shipping label to send it back.
Fits perfectly...after slight modification.

Pros: -Plug and Play: Put the card in, turned on the computer, and Windows recognized it immediately. Did not need to get the drivers from the CD that was included. Running XP SP3 on an IBM NetVista 6791. -Nice to have USB 2.0 and not get those annoying messages about how "This device can perform faster."
Cons: -The mounting bracket was about 1 inch too long on the top and 1/2 inch too long on the bottom. Nothing that couldn't be fixed with a nice pair of tin snips. Might fit better in a vertical tower instead of horizontal like my NetVista.
Overall Review: -Probably would have bought this from NewEgg if I could go back and do it again. Ordered several items here and elsewhere on the same day--NewEgg's items arrived the same day that the other place sent me an e-mail stating that my items had been shipped. The things people do for free shipping... -For anyone thinking about making a first purchase with NewEgg, I highly recommend it! The live chat customer service reps are very helpful and were able to help me return an item I ordered by mistake.
