Turtle Beach TBS-2114 Earforce HPA2 5.1 Surround Sound Headset with Amplifier and Removable Microphone
Turtle Beach TBS-2114 Earforce HPA2 5.1 Surround Sound Headset with Amplifier and Removable Microphone

Pros: This is a really good headset. Dont let all of the negative feedback fool you. You get a quality made piece of hardware with great sound and solid construction. Contrary to previous statements, the Twist lock mic connector is really really good and I have not had one issue with it since Ive gotten it. You get separate 3.5 mm plugs for each channel and this allows for extreme customizability. You dont get any of this with a USB headset. Oh ya, I almost forgot that the unit is powered by its own inline amp.

Cons: You need to have patience and a good understanding of how you want your surround to work. You should also invest in a good soundcard (which I am about to do). My first unit was DOA, but it was more an issue with the way it was boxed by Newegg. I got a replacement from Newegg the next day... Did I mention that Newegg rocks?

Overall Review: I spent alot of time looking at headsets before I chose this one. There are plenty of good Stereo headsets out there but when it comes to surround sound, you have very limited options. You will more than likely get stuck with a headset that connects Via USB which presents several problems. 1) You have to manually change which sound card your computer uses. 2) Many of the inline USB soundcards allow for ZERO configuration. The bottom line is this: If you want a solid headset that will reward you with great sound if you spend some time configuring it, then there is no other option out there.

ASRock P55 Extreme LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock P55 Extreme LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This motherboard has alot of features for a board in the low end spectrum.

Cons: It died on me in less than a week.

Overall Review: I had this board up and running in an i7-860 rig for about 4 days. Put everything together and it booted up on the first try. I installed Windows 7 and proceeded to use it normally. I did some light gaming on it and always ran a temp/voltage monitoring program on my 2nd monitor while playing and never noticed an issue. One night I had the machine on and came back about 30 minutes later. The machine was off. I was baffled and tried to turn it back on. Nothing. I proceeded to open up the side of the case and took a look around. Nothing seemed out of whack. I unplugged the power cable from the power supply and let it sit for a bit. When I plugged it back in and tried to start the machine up a loud POP was heard and then I saw a spark emit from under the power phaser heat sink. There is one other review on newegg that described the exact same problem. It was probably a fluke but I took it as a sign to return it and order a higher end name brand board.

Its alright

Hamilton Beach 04492 True Air Ionic Air Purifier
Hamilton Beach 04492 True Air Ionic Air Purifier

Pros: It is small and quiet on its low setting. It also has a permanent air filter.

Cons: First of all, I had to take an egg off because despite Newegg's description, this unit does not in fact contain an ionizer. Also, beware of the use of the word HEPA in advertisements because this unit is not in fact a HEPA quality unit. I looked all over the internet trying to find out exactly how well the filter on this unit cleans and never found a good answer. Descriptions ranged from .5 microns to 5 microns. Once I received it, on the front it clearly states that it filters microbes as small as 5 microns which is not very good at all. Also, the air quality sensor seems to be a gimmic, I dont know this for a fact but I would assume that it doesnt work very well.

Overall Review: I was looking for an inexpensive hepa quality unit for a low price. Unfortunately most any good Hepa filter will cost you at least 200 dollars and will also require that you replace the filters quite often. I suppose I cant complain too much because I got a fairly quiet inexpensive unit that will require almost zero maintenance over a long period of time. If you however are looking for something that will filter out the tiniest little bits of nasty, look elsewhere.

Acer 22" WSXGA+ LCD Monitor 5 ms D-Sub, DVI X223Wbd
Acer 22" WSXGA+ LCD Monitor 5 ms D-Sub, DVI X223Wbd

Pros: This is definitely not a bad monitor. Not by any stretch of the imagination. The text is clear and it also has decent color controls. You cant tell from the pictures but the bezels are slightly scalloped and coupled with the buttons it has, this monitor while not flashy does stand out from out panels in this range. It is great for gaming and general tasks.

Cons: As has been mentioned before, this monitor definitely has light bleed issues when whatever is onscreen is dark.

Overall Review: This cant be considered a con because it keeps the price of the screen down but the base that comes with this monitor just plain sucks. If I did not have a nice height adjustable stand, I wouldnt have purchased this screen.
