Most Favorable Review

Fantastic Quality. So,so implementation.

NETGEAR 8 Port Gigabit Business-Class Desktop Switch - Lifetime Warranty (GS108)
NETGEAR 8 Port Gigabit Business-Class Desktop Switch - Lifetime Warranty (GS108)

Pros: Super, SUPER fast switch! Now I can transfer large files quickly among my home servers and workstations. Very stable. Good quality.

Cons: The network cables plug into the front and the power cables plug into the back. The whole setup makes for an unsightly design. I would have rather seen all of the cables plug into the back and have the status lights in the front to better mount the switch on a table-top, rack, etc.

Overall Review: But for the design quirk mentioned in the "Cons:" section, I would have given it a rating of 5. I know this product is marketed for offices, but some of us (a minority) need high-performance computing at home and care about asthetics.

Failed after just a few days

PC Power & Cooling ModXStream Pro Series 700 Watt 80+ Semi-Modular Active PFC Performance Grade ATX PC Power Supply (OCZ700MXSP)

Pros: Quiet, looks nice..

Cons: After a week, the computer started turning itself off. After another week of dodgy operation, the PS failed utterly.

Overall Review: Replaced the unit with an Antec model... No problems, since then.

Dead after 2.5 years

Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD6400BPVT 640GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap, good capacity.

Cons: Dies after only 2 years, just past the warranty period.

Overall Review: Hey WD, here's some free, but really good, advice: If you can't sell a drive with a 5 year warranty, do NOT sell one at all. It will cause potential buyers to wonder what other bad management and manufacturing decisions might be affecting your other product lines. Remember: Quality, quality, quality!!

Sweet Little Board!

Foxconn SFF R50-D4 Intel NM10 Barebone
Foxconn SFF R50-D4 Intel NM10 Barebone

Pros: Small footprint. Low power consumption.

Cons: Fan is a little loud. For a few extra dollars, Intel could have installed a quieter fan.

Overall Review: Used this in a home-made SAN. Implemented RAID1 in software (via Linux) and enabled SMB networking for a common file server solution in my home. The board has been up 24x7 for about 6 months. No issues.

acomdata Samurai PRO 500GB USB 2.0 / Firewire400 / Firewire800 2.5" External Hard Drive SD500UFABE

Pros: Nice price. Firewire and USB support for my mixed environment workplace and household (OSX, Linux, Windows). Quiet. Includes 3 cables. A rubber bumper guards the sides and corners. Nice blue LED. Four eggs the the reasons listed below. Otherwise a definite good deal. I do love shopping here.

Cons: I wish, wish, wish the manufacturer had enclosed this in aluminum, instead of plastic. The unit seems to stay cool, but a nice metal case ensures heat transfer. The unit was shipped by Newegg in a shipping envelope, and not wrapped in bubble wrap in a cardboard box.

Overall Review: The drive arrived in a shipping envelope - with MINIMAL shock packing. It's package was ripped and a corner looked collapsed. Fortunately the drive housing sustained no scratches or other indication of direct impact/shock. I'm currently performing a full format to check for bad sectors and giving the unit a full workout. FYI - I'd pay a little more to have it shipped in a cardboard box.

Surprisingly fast

Pros: Great price. Runs Ubuntu Linux. Faster than I thought it would be. A BIG improvement over the VIA C3 I was using before. Intel has a winner with this little chip.

Cons: Integrated support chipset from yesteryear uses a fan. Personally, I don't like fan noise.

Overall Review: I bought this for a small, test-of-concept, mobile computing project. Overall, the price overcomes having to deal with the noise - and I can always replace the stock fan with a quieter one. Five stars for performance.
