Long lasting love

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Upgraded USB 3.0
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Upgraded USB 3.0

Pros: This is my third review now, thinking it wouldn't last this long. Bought this case 8 years ago now. It has housed five or six motherboards along with every other upgrade possible. My 16-year old has had it in his room the last 4-5 years, playing at least 5 hrs a day. Our apartment has had 3 cats all this time, and they often sleep on it, since we have it lying sideways to keep the motherboard from giving away. With all this abuse, it is like new. I have been dusting it every couple of months or so, other than that it has held its own. What a case.

Cons: Haven't found any in 8 years of daily use and abuse.

Overall Review: Probably the best value of any product I have ever own.

Most Critical Review

ASUS P5N

ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Good performance. As expected from Asus.

Cons: The old story of 4 sticks of RAM. Just won't cut it.

Overall Review: I'm updating my review from a while back. After upgrading to 2 9600gt's, their PCI-Express 2.0 architecture couldn't run on this board. Had to upgrade to a 780i. Too bad.

Pros: Check the other 5000 reviews.

Cons: Right.

Overall Review: I have 2 gaming rigs sitting next to each other for 2 years now. Antec 900 and a Cooler Master 590. They're both fantastic cases. The only difference is that the Antec looks brand new on the outside. The 590 looks more than 2 years old, but looks new on the inside. The bezels are the main difference. I have three cats roaming around in my room, and the hair goes inside the Antec, while it gets stuck on the front on the 590. It's just a matter of one's preference. Hope it helps.

Vista

Microsoft Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Premium for System Builders Single Pack DVD
Microsoft Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Premium for System Builders Single Pack DVD

Pros: I've done seven or eight installs within the last 9 months, and I have yet to have a problem. For a system builder, this is your os. The installation process is supreme compared to XP.

Cons: you have to learn how to tweak the system if you're into performance. It's more important than with the XP. You might have to spend more time customizing with Vista than with XP, to get it running to your personal liking. Also, the system is a resource hog. If your running 4GB, know that 2 sticks of 2GB is recognized as a total of 2.5GB and 4 sticks of 1GB is recognized as 3.5GB! Weird.

Overall Review: When the car was invented, there were many people who opposed it. It was too dangerous and performance wise it didn't make sense to go with something new and unproven that blew up half of the time. They wanted to stick with the horse and buggy since it was safe and it was something they were used to. The question is, when are you going to switch to the future? They fixed the car, and they've fixed Vista. Compared to 12 months ago, it's night and day.

Nice cards!

PNY GeForce 9600 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Graphics Card VCG96512GXPB

Pros: The price, of course. And quiet. Upgraded from a single PNY 8800gts 320mb to two of these. For about the same price, mind you! Tremendous upgrade.

Cons: Had to ditch my Asus P5N-E nForce650 mobo, because the it couldn't handle the new PCI-E 2.0 technology. Games would crash randomly. With a EVGA 780i, these cards are running great. Had to pay a little bit more than I wanted for the upgrade, but what the heck. Everything changes every 6 months anyway.

Overall Review: Make sure you run these in SLI. 64 stream processors individually will suffer at high resolutions in a single card configuration. Double them up and you'll have a winner. COD4, CoH and WIC can now be played full tilt at 1920x1200, with vibrant colors and great speed. 12000 3dmark06 (SLI). EVGA 780i-2xPNY 9600GT-E6400-Kingston DDR800 4x2GB-OCZ Mod 780W.

EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: One heck of a piece of hardware. Solid and quiet. Nice choice with the optional NB fan. Since I don't jack up the FSB, I don't have to use it. Was up and running in 30 minutes. Easier install than any other motherboard so far.

Cons: USB header seated too close to third PCI-E slot.

Overall Review: I was forced to upgrade since my Asus P5N-E (nForce 650) couldn't handle the PCI-E 2.0 technology of my new 9600 GT's (PNY). Games would crash randomly. Now they're running like a dream. I've been using nForce board since the 4-series, and there has always been issues. But this news 780i chipset is just really solid. I will use EVGA again, for sure.
