ASUS P7P55D-E LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS P7P55D-E LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: 100% great motherboard, couldn't really be happier. ASUS express gate at first I thought was just some cheap SW I thought ASUS was trying to pawn off on me - but I could see some real use for it (it's a VERY FAST boot to a linux-like miniOS that allows you to do common tasks - internet, IM, etc). Sata 6 USB 3 --Something to note is most mobo's don't truly support sata6/usb3 as the traces limit bandwidth to other areas of the board - ASUS has done the best job with the new technologies so far. Great for an i7 - there was a lot of instructions that specifically applied to i7/i5 cores. Lots of additional USB additions. PRICE!

Cons: Many cases are letting you put the PSU on the bottom of the case nowadays, and this new standard then puts the CPU 4pin power cord coming across the entire mobo - and running awfully close to my CPU heatsink/fan (the connector is on the top of the board).

Overall Review: Great mobo for a great price.

ASUS VH232H Glossy Black 23" 5ms Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ASCR 20000:1 w/Speakers & HDMI
ASUS VH232H Glossy Black 23" 5ms Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ASCR 20000:1 w/Speakers & HDMI

Pros: Large screen, perfect size. 1080p Glossy black makes it very attractive HDMI + DVI + VGA - great for multiple devices (XBOX) The pictures are misleading and I thought I was going to have to worry about the stand being to small - not the case, stand is great. Come with speakers...although not really brilliant quality.

Cons: Must...memorize...menu buttons 1 dead pixel bottom left..hardly noticeable until screen goes black. When will monitors have easier access to VGA/DVI/HDMI ports? Always such a pain to blindly poke around till you get it, or dare you flip it upside-down and perform the balancing act and not scratch the screen/drop it.

Overall Review: superb monitor and a great pickup at 180$. This is the sweet spot as far as price goes and 23" 1080p monitors.

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Upgraded USB 3.0
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Upgraded USB 3.0

Pros: I love this case. I am not about all the flashy-ness of a case, and really don't care about style - but it is a small bonus and I enjoyed it much more after I got my build up and running. The top fan is HUGE and thusly, runs VERY quiet. Top fan is something I have fallen in love with and I will refuse to build without it. All fans come with variable control. PSU bottom mount. Comes with all the screws you would ever need and even a support bracket if your graphics card is HUGE. 2 front fans and back fans give great flow through the case - optional side fan. Window to view your precious. !!!ANTEC FIGURED OUT THAT YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE YOUR USB IN A CAVE AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR CASE!!! (cough dell cough). Easily accessible frontal USB/Audio. Steel. Suck it up and pay the shippping - it's worth it. Little ?tray? on top...for drinks? xD I wouldn't suggest it but cool and comes with rubber "placemat". Little mesh-like pattern on fans hopefully keep them cleaner longe

Cons: Wish fan variable control was long enough to be access outside the case. Power button lacks pizazz and is hardly noticeable.

Overall Review: No, seriously, I love this case.

Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply
Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply

Pros: 650W plenty for my single graphics card (ATI 5770 1GB) and core i7 860. Also running 1TB caviar green WD HDD and intel's 80gb SSD. Seems very steady and quiet. If it's green for the Earth - great!

Cons: First time I turned the device on a large spark flew out the back (I was wearing a grounding bracelet). Many many many cables that will never be used in modern day systems.

Overall Review: Superb PSU - a part of the build I didn't want to go cheap on and this is still a great price from a preferred brand.

Intel Core i7-860 - Core i7 Lynnfield Quad-Core 2.8 GHz LGA 1156 95W Processor - BX80605I7860
Intel Core i7-860 - Core i7 Lynnfield Quad-Core 2.8 GHz LGA 1156 95W Processor - BX80605I7860

Pros: Very good processor, and now that 900 series has been coming out - the price has dropped to give you IMO the best performance for price for processor to date. Nice large heatsink/fan (quiet) makes my CPU run at 48C - i've seen documentation that intel's CAN run up to 100C fine...not that I'd suggest it - so I was super happy with 48C. Fast, quad core - the way to go if you go Intel.

Cons: Mine arrived with only a SMALL DOT of thermal paste... not nearly enough. Having no experience building a computer yet - I figured it would squish and spread over the entire CPU and high temps would help it melt and spread - I was wrong and got my mobo shutting down when it reached 120C... Took an egg off for going out to buy some arctic silver5 (wanted to DO IT NOW instead of deal with support :D). Friend of mine bought same processor two months ago and he got lines of thermal paste on his...

Overall Review: Great CPU other than the defect I received - buy it now!

XFX Radeon HD 5770 1GB DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card HD-577X-ZNFC
XFX Radeon HD 5770 1GB DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card HD-577X-ZNFC

Pros: DirectX 11 1GB DDR5 2 DVI's Bigger fan then it's closely related brother (5770 Juniper XT brand I think it was called) - making it much quieter.

Cons: Pretty wide card can limit which slots you can throw it in on your mobo, specifically if you have a PCI slot that is faster that you want to put it in - just something to consider that I wasn't thinking about.

Overall Review: Great card so far - will be fun pushing it to its limits.
