Works on every OS I've tried

Logitech C200 0.3 M Effective Pixels USB 2.0 WebCam
Logitech C200 0.3 M Effective Pixels USB 2.0 WebCam

Pros: I can personally verify that it works with Skype on Windows XP Home, Windows Vista Home Premium (x86), Windows 7 Home Premium (x64), and Mac OS X 10.6.2 using Skype to make video calls. I haven't tried it on my Ubuntu Linux installations, but I hear that it also works fine on Ubuntu. Built-in microphone is good enough for video chat and works no all of those OS's. I have 3 different LCD monitors, and it sits on top of any of them with no major issues. You can also use the built-in microphone for online games if you want. This is a webcam for the masses. Pretty much guaranteed to work with no issues, whatever your setup is...

Cons: Max. picture resolution is only 640 x 480. If you're just video chatting with a relative, I think you'll find that it's fine. This resolution is what you get out of a DVD, but the picture quality is a lot less because the camera lens is only a couple millimeters in size--which is true of just about every webcam out there. I think it's fine, and you probably will also.

Overall Review: I'm so satisfied with mine that when my mother asked me to help her find a webcam to give a relative as a gift, I quickly ordered this one from newegg. It is an excellent unit. I found out quite accidentally the other day that I can skype using my camcorder if I choose to do so. I happened to have it hooked up the firewire port on my machine when I was going through the Skype video settings, and there it was... If you have a decent camcorder that you can connect to your computer, you might try that before purchasing a webcam. As for me, I'm sticking with the Logitech C200 anyhow, since I already own it, and it works so well.

Most Critical Review

It works

CORSAIR CX Series CX430 430W 80 PLUS BRONZE Active PFC ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply
CORSAIR CX Series CX430 430W 80 PLUS BRONZE Active PFC ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply

Pros: It works and looks fantastic. It has a large fan. The price is right, and for what you spend, you could do a lot worse than this unit. Corsair seems to be a reputable vendor.

Cons: It makes an audible whine at idle...Louder than factory power supply in my HP Pavilion desktop.

Overall Review: I purchased this specifically due to the price and the fact that some reviewers stated it was quiet. This is not really a quiet power supply. The fan runs constantly on mine, and at low RPM, you can hear the whine from across the room. The factory p/s in my HP Pavilion was much quieter. I was avoiding the larger power supplies because I didn't want a loud unit (this is in my family room), and I didn't want the high price. When the fan comes on full speed (usually after I"ve been gaming), the noise is what you would expect and the fan does a good job of blowing out hot air fast. This unit does put out adequate power for my system: HP Pavilion with Pegatron M2N78-LA motherboard (I think) Athlon II x 4 640 GeForce GT 240 video card no other major power draws (single HDD, single optical drive)

Dead in less than 1 year

CORSAIR CX Series CX500 500W 80 PLUS BRONZE Active PFC ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply

Pros: Made good power while it lasted, fan not overly loud. Plenty of connections, and good cable length for a mid tower.

Cons: Started dying within 6 months (random reboots and shutdowns). After 10 months of ownership, sending it back to Corsair. I have to pay the shipping.

Overall Review: We'll see how the RMA process goes. I have a Corsair CX430 that is still going strong after several years.

Small board, priced right

GIGABYTE GA-B85M-DS3H (rev. 3.0) LGA 1150 Intel B85 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-B85M-DS3H (rev. 3.0) LGA 1150 Intel B85 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: - fits in almost any enclosure due to small size - priced well - high quality printed circuit board - all the ports and expansion slots you need for basic build, even a PS/2 port if you have an old favorite keyboard you just can't quit using

Cons: - None so far

Overall Review: This board was put in an Antec vsk-4000 midtower case and fit with all kinds of room to spare. Configured with: core i5 4570 16GB (2 x 8GB) ADATA RAM Sandisk 128GB SSD Seagate 2TB HDD using on-board/on-chip video thermaltake 600W PSU

Lasted nearly 3 years

HP Officejet 4500 CB867A Up to 28 ppm Black Print Speed 4800 x 1200 dpi Color Print Quality Ethernet (RJ-45) / USB Thermal Inkjet MFC / All-In-One Color Printer
HP Officejet 4500 CB867A Up to 28 ppm Black Print Speed 4800 x 1200 dpi Color Print Quality Ethernet (RJ-45) / USB Thermal Inkjet MFC / All-In-One Color Printer

Pros: Prints excellent quality, and fast. Inexpensive. Scans multi-page documents (single-sided only) straight from the feeder. Works with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, Mac OS X, and Ubuntu Ink cartridges easy to replace

Cons: Software takes long time to install and is buggy. Requires occasional re-installation. Navigation of settings on the small screen is a chore.

Overall Review: This printer serviced our family well for nearly 3 years and now has an error indicating something is wrong with an ink cartridge I just replaced a few weeks ago. For what printers cost, I am inclined to just buy a new printer. I found an online vendor that still sells the 4500, so maybe i will do that and keep this one for spare parts.

fast, works

Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SV300S37A/120G
Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SV300S37A/120G

Pros: Fast, affordable, fits nicely in a laptop, comes with a thin (1mm?) spacer in case you need it This unit is also sized appropriately for any of the major operating systems if you don't need a lot of extra space for software and data.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: Installed this SSD several days ago to replace a 5400rpm HDD in a Toshiba laptop for my step-mother. The difference in performance is very noticeable when booting and launching applications. Complete reboot in less than 1 minute. It probably would have been better with a fresh install of the OS, but I just cloned the existing disk to save time.
