Cooler Really Works

ASUS GeForce 9800 GT 512MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card EN9800GT/DI/512MD3
ASUS GeForce 9800 GT 512MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card EN9800GT/DI/512MD3

Pros: The "Glaciator" heatsink/fan really works as advertised. My GPU is running 41 C idle, 54 C full load. This compares quite favorably with my EVGA 9800GT with reference design cooler that runs at 52 idle, 67 load with identical speed and performance. Comes with built in HDMI port and SPDIF cable to connect to sound card. ASUS rebate site indicated that they have received and approved my rebate submission within 2 weeks of my sending it in. Now just waiting for the Visa gift card to arrive in the mail.

Cons: Takes up two slots due to oversize cooler. No TV output, but then all the current digital TV's come with HDMI inputs. Component inputs will soon become a thing of the past.

Overall Review: There are certainly faster cards available, but I got this for eighty nine bucks on sale, sixty nine assuming rebate card comes through. It's a great deal for a 9800GT.

Seagate Expansion 2TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive
Seagate Expansion 2TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive

Pros: Plug and play with Windows Home Server 2011. It was working fine for a 3 days as an external backup drive for daily system backups.

Cons: Then it just died. No computer could access anything on the drive other than an error message. Lost all my data. Fortunately I had purchased it at a local retailer and I could return it for refund rather than waiting for the RMA process and getting another dud. I switched to a Western Digital My Book for $10 more which has been working like a charm for more than a year.

Works like a charm

TP-LINK TL-WR740N Wireless N150 Home Router, 150Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button
TP-LINK TL-WR740N Wireless N150 Home Router, 150Mbps, IP QoS, WPS Button

Pros: What a deal for twenty bucks. Works great straight out of the box with factory firmware. I was going to put DD-WRT on this and bought it for that purpose when my Linksys WRT54GL died, but using this router with factory settings does all that I need. I am using it with 4 network switches, a dedicated Windows Home Server 2011 box, 8 other pc's, 2 BluRay players and a Smart TV on ethernet, 1-3 laptops, a Wii, Xbox 360, up to 5 Android devices on Wifi and it has been working without a glitch for 3 months straight. WPA2 security has been flawless with all the Wifi clients. Wifi speeds are about 60-72 Mbps on a 802.11n enabled laptop. As a pleasant suprise compared to the other routers I've used, Port forwarding and UPnP actually work as advertised. Range has not been a problem anywhere in a large 2 story house.

Cons: None

Overall Review: I wish I had started with this router. I would have a lot more hair left.

Beware, no warranty implied.

AMD Radeon HD 6770 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 Video Card 633897-ZH1
AMD Radeon HD 6770 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 Video Card 633897-ZH1

Pros: Fast mainstream card at a great price. Going from onboard (Radeon HD4200) graphics to this card, my WEI graphic scores went from 3.9/5.9 to 7.4/7.4. Run Windows update to download the software that will get it to be recognized as a 6770 (it initially is recognized as a 5770). It came with a free game download (DIRT3) with the card.

Cons: Bulk OEM item in brown box. No warranty (see below).

Overall Review: As far as I can tell, there is NO MANUFACTURER warranty. The only hope you have is that if it fails, it does so in the 30 day window that Newegg gives you for return/replacement. The manufacturer web page is AMD and they sell no retail video cards at all and no mention of any warranty.

Lasted 2 years

KWorld UB435-Q USB ATSC TV Stick
KWorld UB435-Q USB ATSC TV Stick

Pros: Excellent off the air HD picture quality as long as the signal strength is good. Inexpensive. Easy set up. Works well with Windows 7 media center. I was able to record TV shows, edit them with Windows Live Movie Maker and convert them to MP4's with Handbrake.

Cons: Started getting buggy after a year. It would stop working and I would intermittently have to unplug and replug it into the USB port. Finally died after two years.

Overall Review: Even though it died on me, I'll probably buy another one as it's the least expensive TV tuner on Newegg and it worked well for what I needed.

Nifty little Device

Pandigital WikiReader Handheld Electronic Encyclopedia With Full Wikipedia Catalog - Preloaded & Updatable!
Pandigital WikiReader Handheld Electronic Encyclopedia With Full Wikipedia Catalog - Preloaded & Updatable!

Pros: Nice way to carry around a full text encyclopedia in your pocket without internet access. Updates are easily downloadable and you can also add Wikidictionary, Wikiquotes, Wikitravel, Gutenberg Project and others. It's pocket sized at 4 x 4 x 0.75 inches. The capacitive touch screen is sensitive. It's truly a bargain at fifteen bucks.

Cons: Screen readability and contrast is low at default settings; it really needs to be used with good lighting. The included 4 GB Micro SD card is too small to get the latest Wikipedia update; the last update that will fit on the card is from 2010. Touch screen keyboard is a little small to easily type on.

Overall Review: You can get to the adjust contrast screen by holding down the Search and Random buttons while powering on. Holding down the search button while powering on gets you to some utility programs like self test and calculator.
