Great card

HighPoint RocketRAID 2320 PCI-Express x4 SATA II (3.0Gb/s) RAID Controller Card
HighPoint RocketRAID 2320 PCI-Express x4 SATA II (3.0Gb/s) RAID Controller Card

Pros: I configured it with 8 750GB drives running in RAID 5 on a cheapo MSI motherboard with a low-end core2 running XP64 for a single 5.25TB partition. The card worked exactly as expected, and I custom-built an LED array for it's status/error lights. Read/Write speeds max out the Gigabit ethernet connection, cant ask more than that from a file server. I think I got 180 MB/s write speeds when testing it locally, array took about 4-5 hours to configure.

Cons: The software doesnt have the greatest UI I've ever seen. Clearly built by engineers because it is by far function over form.

Overall Review: This is the first RAID system I've built, so it was in part a learning experience, but everything was easy... the only surprise I had was that 32-bit XP cant handle a partition >2TB.

almost very good

Cooler Master RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Cooler Master RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Great layout with plenty of drive space.

Cons: Poor airflow for HDs and poor HD cooling. Coolermaster needs to stop making plastic clips for holding HDs, this is the same issue the 534 had. Drives need to conduct their heat into the case, not just rely on a fan which barely blows on them since it's air is blocked by the drive cage anyway. If you track temperature in drives packed this way, you'll see its 5-15 C higher than a drive mounted tightly into a metal cage. Use a 4-3 cage if you go for this case.

Overall Review: I switched to the Lian-Li PC60 series for all tower builds, far better airflow for drives and systems to keep parts working longer.
