Check each drive for vibration

WD Red Plus 3TB NAS Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6Gb/s, CMR, 64MB Cache, 3.5 Inch - WD30EFRX
WD Red Plus 3TB NAS Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6Gb/s, CMR, 64MB Cache, 3.5 Inch - WD30EFRX

Pros: Purchased 6 of these drives from NewEgg. 5/6 drives were fine and worked as they should. .

Cons: One (1/6) drive had a very significant vibration and had to go back to NewEgg for RMA replacement. Several people have reported heavy vibration in these drives. Feel the drives before mounting them! Some minor spin vibration is completely normal, but excessive vibration can transfer through the drive cage to other drives.

Overall Review: When I returned the vibrating drive, it was damaged in return shipping which led to a big headache and delay! NewEgg eventually took care of the issue with their excellent customer service. When returning a drive(s), double-box them, even if NewEgg sent them single-boxed! I returned my drive in the drive box and with the same bubble wrap that NewEgg sent me. This was exactly the same way that NewEgg sent my replacement drive, except they sent it via OnTrac, and my return went UPS. My RMA replacement box had one of the bubble-wrap compartments collapsed, but fortunately, the drive tested okay and did not exhibit excessive vibration. I cannot tell if the original vibrating drive was like that from the factory, or damaged during shipping. In any event, I think WD should make the drives a bit more sturdy so that even when properly packaged (as they were presumably from WD and definitely from NewEgg), the drives aren't so susceptible to shock damage while parked. I remain a loyal and happy NewEgg customer and hope that Western Digital can take this feedback to improve their products. They're good, but they could get better.

Failed at day 32

SAMSUNG 24" S-PVA WUXGA LCD Monitor 6ms (GTG) D-Sub, DVI, HDMI, CVBS, S-video, Component 245T-BLACK
SAMSUNG 24" S-PVA WUXGA LCD Monitor 6ms (GTG) D-Sub, DVI, HDMI, CVBS, S-video, Component 245T-BLACK

Pros: Looked pretty good while it was working. Slight buzz from the top was not noticeable over the noise of my computer.

Cons: Infant mortality and the obvious lack of image. It gave some hints that it was about to die leading up to the failure: The image would flick off and then come back on again. This occurred over a period of about two days. Samsung diagnosed it over the phone as "failed."

Overall Review: I was in Canada at the time and Samsung would not accept a warranty return because of that. I called NewEgg and even though it was two days past the 30 day limit, they made an exception and replaced it for me. I can't say enough great things about this company's support. They sure go the extra mile for their customers. I wish Samsung had offered to honor their warranty, but they're an international company so it was pretty hard for me to understand why they wouldn't.

Works as advertised

Vantec 2.5" / 3.5" / 5.25" SATA / IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter - Model CB-ISATAU2
Vantec 2.5" / 3.5" / 5.25" SATA / IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter - Model CB-ISATAU2

Pros: Works as advertised

Cons: To use this device with a 2.5" IDE drive, your USB port must be able to supply enough juice to power the drive. I couldn't get it to work from my computer, but I was able to use it by connecting to a *powered* USB hub. Ignore the instruction that tells you to hook up power to the 2.5" drive's 4-pin connector, it's not needed (as long as your USB port is providing enough power).

Don't buy this monitor!

SAMSUNG 24" S-PVA WUXGA LCD Monitor 6ms (GTG) D-Sub, DVI, HDMI, CVBS, S-video, Component 245T-BLACK
SAMSUNG 24" S-PVA WUXGA LCD Monitor 6ms (GTG) D-Sub, DVI, HDMI, CVBS, S-video, Component 245T-BLACK

Pros: Shiny. Displays static content at the advertised resolution. Just don't ask anything to move on your screen.

Cons: Does not work with DVD playback or with games as delivered. The single-link DVI cable provided with the monitor is not sufficient to deliver 1920x1200 multimedia content.

Overall Review: I bought two of these and it was a mistake. I now own four high-dollar "professional" Samsung displays and once appreciated them for their quality (no more). Delivering this monitor with a single link DVI cable was a major mistake on Samsung's part and they're completely unwilling to remedy that error. While it is a nice monitor, it is not worth paying this kind of money for when the support you get from the company amounts to "so sad, too bad." I spoke with their executive assistance center. Jasmine understood that not providing me with the Dual-link cables that would allow me to use the monitor as intended and that denying my request would severely degrade my opinion of the Samsung brand and yet she insisted that she would not provide me with cables. She then had the nerve to ask me if there was anything else she could assist me with after not having assisted me in the first place. That's not customer support, that's customer irritation. So, Samsung gets one egg and a big raspberry!

Works great after 1 week

Rosewill RCR-IC002 - 74-in-1 Internal Card Reader with USB 2.0 Ports & Extra Silver Face Plate - Fits 3.5" Drive Bay

Pros: Does everything it's supposed to do so far. Reads my SD cards and the USB works. I haven't tried the other ports as I don't have those media.

Cons: The blue light everyone has been talking about. It does match the rest of the blue LEDs on my case though.

Overall Review: Nope

PC Power and Cooling Silencer 910W High Performance 80PLUS Silver SLI CrossFire ready Power Supply
PC Power and Cooling Silencer 910W High Performance 80PLUS Silver SLI CrossFire ready Power Supply

Pros: The 8-pin ATX-12V power cable reached to my EVGA E758 connector in an Antec 900 case. This cases uses a bottom mount PSU so I was a bit worried about this. No problem reaching the MB 24-pin power connector. Has a bazillion SATA connectors.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: Nope.
