Worked great ... for a while
Pros: Purchased in June of 2009, functioned as a great cooler. Kept my Phenom II X4 940 cool even under the most intensive loads.
Cons: None up until recently. Starting a few months ago, when the temps get above 35 or 40c, the fan begins to grind on a piece of metal on the heatsink itself, making a deafening grinding and clicking noise. This also happens when there's any movement in the room (ie: open the door, slide my chair, open the window, etc). It may be mine is faulty, or perhaps I had bent something in the installation process.
Overall Review: Would purchase again.
Great software
Pros: Lightroom 3 (currently 3.5 with latest update) is the easiest photo suite I've ever worked with. It puts Apple's Aperture to shame. Lightroom has support for more cameras and lenses than you can shake a stick at, as well as amazing post-processing abilities. It saves all changes as a separate file instead of on the image so your originals will always be available. I went from spending a good half hour per photo on a 100+ shoot in GIMP to maybe 20 minutes to get the entire collection done. Simply astonishing.
Cons: I didn't buy it from Newegg, and importing an existing photo library can be a headache. Once everything is set up in Lightroom, however, it's a breeze.
Overall good drive
Pros: -Great drive, decent $/GB ratio for an external drive of this size -Both eSATA and USB options -Quick transfer speeds on both connections
Cons: My one gripe with this drive is that sometimes when I start it up, it makes a grinding/clicking noise for a few seconds. I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but in my experience similar noises mean a dead drive. So far it still works. I use this drive for my main backup, running a documents backup every week and a full computer image every month, it doesn't get that much use.
Overall Review: If it turns out the grinding is just nothing, I will buy a second for RAID 1.
