Linux review: working perfectly

ASUS WL-107G IEEE802.11g Wireless Cardbus Adapter
ASUS WL-107G IEEE802.11g Wireless Cardbus Adapter

Pros: Using RT2500 driver for linux, I had this going in minutes (gentoo linux). Speed and reliability have been high.

Cons: None that I have found, but I have not tested it for range (but I have seen nothing to suggest any big problem)

Overall Review: Seem to run a lot cooler than my old linksys card (which, ahem, burned out!)

Nice monitor, but I've had a hardware failure

Acer Gaming Series ED323QUR Abidpx 32" (Actual size 31.5") 2560 x 1440 2K Resolution 144Hz DisplayPort HDMI DVI AMD FreeSync LED Backlit Curved Gaming Monitor
Acer Gaming Series ED323QUR Abidpx 32" (Actual size 31.5") 2560 x 1440 2K Resolution 144Hz DisplayPort HDMI DVI AMD FreeSync LED Backlit Curved Gaming Monitor

Pros: Nice display with freesync small bezels and compact design

Cons: Displayport input stopped working for me (multiple other cables work on another monitor, and it had been working on this monitor)

Overall Review: if wasn't for the displayport issue I would recommend this monitor.

Dual boot Windows, Linux on Alienware 17 r2

Alienware - 17.3" IPS - Intel Core i7 4th Gen 4710HQ (2.50GHz) - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M - 8 GB DDR3L - 1TB HDD - Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Gaming Laptop (ANW17-2136SLV )
Alienware - 17.3" IPS - Intel Core i7 4th Gen 4710HQ (2.50GHz) - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M - 8 GB DDR3L - 1TB HDD - Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Gaming Laptop (ANW17-2136SLV )

Pros: Arch linux working pretty well, with a few key missing pieces that will hopefully resolve soon (see cons) Dual UEFI boot quite clean I installed a crucial MX200 (Newegg: N82E16820148955) moved windows to it, and installed arch linux. Linux boots almost instantly ~1 second (will update after I install bootchart) Windows works pretty - I use it for gaming, and I'm pretty happy with that. Build quality seems very good - it's stylish, solid, not too loud. Battery with Intel graphics is about 4-5 hours.

Cons: Trackpad on Windows very jumpy, despite me trying to reduce functionality to just pointer movement and scroll. (it seems to want to zoom, which causes a big jump at the end of scrolling). On linux, the scrolling and pointer work great however, so its just a driver issue not hardware. Linux details - the biggest miss here is the wireless networking, the Killer N1525 is not supported yet. Out of the box that was the only thing I noticed for a while - but I did notice the microphone not working yet (but I have not tried) and some of the fan i2c devices not there. I used Arch Linux, so most drivers pretty much as modern as it gets. I did not enable test repos, maybe I will investigate this for wireless.

Overall Review: Sometimes I wake up and go...I paid **what*** for a laptop!?! But at the end of the day, I'm happy about it - it's very powerful, super solid package, decent battery for work stuff but need to power it for games. I can always think about getting the graphics booster down the road.

Perfect condition, great value.

37" 720p LCD HDTV
37" 720p LCD HDTV

Pros: Great picture quality, great value. This refurb was in perfect condition, everything I have checked works just fine. Looks really great. I am getting 5 PBS digital channels, 2 NBC. The over the air (OTA) HD broadcasts look better than cable and satellite.

Cons: Cycling through the sources is somewhat cumbersome. If using the ATSC tuner, you cannot get the signal strength for a channel - you have to readjust the antenna and then scan or tune to the station and visually check.

Overall Review: Even with the two 'cons', its great value. This TV is a consumer reports 'best buy' and rates up there with TVs twice the price. Amazing! Every delivery is different - we made sure the box was in good shape before signing, following the newegg terms. I'm using a 15$ antenna to get all my channels (I get all that are available) but I have to diddle with the location to get it to work correctly. Be patient and get the antenna outside!
