Great Server
Pros: Easy to configure, all required Windows software comes on CD or an easy download from HP if you wish to run Windows. Easy to add drives (must purchase drive cages, $15/ea, from another major commerce site). Easy to add separate ILO3 port for $30, so that no ILO traffic goes over the 2 include NIC ports. Max RAM is 32GB, and VMware ESXi 5.1 installs easily and effortlessly controls power management for DPM; configuration takes seconds within the VMware interface.
Cons: I wish HP had an ML110 G8 on offer, as that would typically include the E3-xxxx-v2 lineup of CPUs, which offer slightly lower power use. I wish it could be expanded past 32GB, but I'm aware that's a function of the chipset and has nothing to do with HP. Other than that, it's a great entry level, modern server.
Overall Review: Well done server with easy support from HP's website.
Outstanding performance for cheap
Pros: Very good performance compared to the high-end of the last-gen Coupled with I5-12400F for only $300, performance is hard to beat
Cons: I knew the PCIe x16 was "only" 4.0, and I knew the MATX board only had 2 additional PCIe ports, both x1, but for the price I don't see those as serious issues.
Overall Review: Intel finally has a price/performance champ, and the B660M-HDV board from Asrock makes taking advantage of Intel's performance easy and cheap. I plugged it in, added RAM and a graphics card, and was ready to work.
Works great in ML110-G7 Server
Pros: Plugs right in, and becomes an iLO3 port for my ML110-G7.
Cons: Cost. HP should include this.
Works well, but has sound issues & fan issues
Pros: Very easy to OC - read a few reviews on the web, then just dialed in the settings. Took just a few minutes. Very easy to install; color coding is helpful. Very easy to read the directions. Very common board, so lots of people can assist with any issues.
Cons: Sound has so much static and background noise that it's essentially useless - I plugged in an old Creative 1370 audio card and the sound is much better. Fan (or lack of fan movement) causes machine to beep (fan warning beep) during initial poweron for about 10 seconds.
Overall Review: Works well - this is recommended.
