Does this cooler come with thermal paste?

The cooler if i am not mistaken, already had a bit of paste already on the base. I just used that and so far have not had any problems. Hope this helps

Has anyone tried this on a AM4 socket?

I have used it on an AM4 socket at it is functional.  It requires a huge amount of force to bend it into place to fit onto the hooks of an AM4 socket motherboard.  It looks cool and works well but I don't recommend it due to its tremendous installation difficulty.  Easily the most difficult cooler I have ever installed.  I do not recommend you purchase this product for an AM4 socket.

can the fan be mounted on the other side?

The fan comes with holding brackets that can be installed in an orientation that will line up with the holding points on the motherboard. The mounting will depend on how the hold points are configured on your particular motherboard. It comes with different brackets for either Intel or AMD processors. I installed on a Ryzen 1600X and B350M Asrock motherboard and it was a snap to attach the included brackets and clip to the motherboard. The mounting surface is pre-coated with thermal compound.

is the box sealed? mine came crushed and may have been used already?

My box did not have sealing tape.  Was not crushed.
If fan works and fins not bent should be OK.

Using 300 model on i7 7700K no OCing. works good.
