No, there is no Num Lock button, or scroll lock for that matter...

how do you change battery in mouse?

the lid of the mouse is magnetized to the body, if you pull the lid up hard enough will demagnetizing the lid and you can change out the battery.

Any idea on whether having a number of computers in the same room (all within 30ft) each with their own keyboard/mouse combo would work fine?

This will be fine.  All keyboards and mice are paired with a UID that is specific to the dongle that is provided.  Unfortunately, unlike the Logitech devices, if you lose the dongle for a Dell wireless device you have to get a new one.
