XBox Hookup 1/20/2012 2:56:01 PM

Pros: Analog works. Laptop to 5.1 speakers nice.

Cons: Wanted to hookup XBox 360 to this via SPDIF. No success. Tried DVD Player hookup via SPDIF. No success. Tried vainly to contact Diamond for support. No Success.

line issues? under $50, get this! 8/28/2011 2:31:39 AM

Pros: -perfect audio for its price bracket
-louder (closer to line level) than most soundcards up to $40-50
-got rid of line noise

Cons: -no pretentious DAC chipset or OpAmps
-only 48kHz (but how many DVD-Audio discs do you have compared to CDs/FLACs/MP3s?)

Overall Review: somehow, after 4-6 years of doing ok with either a Chaintech AV-710 (with sought-after Burr-Brown DACs in the front), followed by brief Onboard, then a Razer AC-1 (legendary CMI8788), i got some hum somewhere in the DAC chain that i just couldn't get rid of. so i got this while i was going to research others, and it's done the job marvelously.

it's also closer to line-level outs than any other card under $50 i've tried. (compare a PS3 or--i assume--Xbox360 analog out to onboard or said pricebracket soundcard, and you won't even come close to a 1/3 the sound all the way up).

so if you're experiencing analog out whine/hissing, get a long USB cable, some 1/8" to RCAs less than a foot (6" preferred) and this, and you should be good to go til we get more competition in the ~$50-60 range of USB DACs. (note: this is 16/48 ... however CDs are 16/44.1; also, of the few DVD-Audio discs i own, most are 24/48. and obv bit depth dithers infinitely more quickly and transparently than freq res
