Will this be a good replacement for an Hp pavilion case?

Provided your Hp Pavilion's Motherboard is a micro ATX format. Look up your system specs on HP using your model number it should be listed there. As long as it is a Micro it will work you will also need the pop-out section from the back of your old case it matches up to your motherboard.

Where does the front intake pull air from?

There is an inadequate opening atr the bottom of the facia - approximately 5/8" x 4". Considering the size of the fan there should be greater venting. I've reduced the voltage to the fan to quiet it, and to bring the air flow more in line with venting capacity.
