Great HTPC Card 8/5/2010 9:58:51 AM

Pros: - Silent (fanless)
- Heatsink is relatively small compared to other similar caliber fanless cards, so it can more easily fit many HTPC cases.

Cons: - Even though the heatsink is small, it still takes up an extra PCI slot.

Overall Review: I'm using this card in my HTPC box running MythTV. Advanced 2x de-interlacing through VDPAU works perfectly. For me, this card runs at ~31C when idle, and maxes out ~50C after watching a few hours of 1080i content. I have not had any overheating issues, although I do have a well ventilated case.

Hot hot hot - not in a good way 6/30/2010 8:49:02 AM

Pros: Silent, works great until it gets too hot

Cons: Runs very hot. My HTPC case does not have a fan directly blowing air over the graphics card, which seems to me like it would defeat the purpose of a fanless card. The heat resulted in a system lockup after 45 minutes of browsing the internet and watching videos from various websites.

Overall Review: I was using this in an HTPC - which is the reason I got a fanless card with VDPAU support and audio over HDMI. However the card made the whole corner of my case (top, back, side, and bottom) extremely hot to the touch, the case has 4 fans including PSU.

I did not overclock the card, play 3D games, or do anything more intensive than watching low-def video while browsing the internet when the card caused the system to lock up.

Going to be returning the card.

Manufacturer Response:
We do apologize for any heating issues you experienced.

This chipset did run at ~45c at idle and ~75c when at load in our testing; which also seems to be pretty average for the GT 220 chipset. This will of course be dependent on your specific setup and environment. The chipset has a maximum tolerance of 105c, though in the majority of cases you should not be reaching such temps.

If you can, we would like for you to contact us, so we may find out more about your setup to see if anything can be done. If the video card is experiencing heating issues, we would like to help get you a replacement that suits your needs, if possible.

When contacting us, you can refer to case #ECD10063010025

I or any of my team members here at technical support will be able to help you.
Our hours are Mon-Fri 9am-6pm PST.

Nice, quiet performance 6/16/2010 5:34:41 PM

Pros: Totally silent fanless design.
Consistent performance.

Cons: Runs a bit hot under load.
Large heatsink prevents using adjacent PCI slot.

Overall Review: Benchmarks were almost identical to my GeForce 9400 GT.
Under load in a well-ventilated mini-tower case the card topped out at a temperature around 80 degrees C. Under normal use it hovers around 52 degrees C.
Haven't experienced any performance glitches so far. Very happy with this card.
