Question 1

What range does the focus allow?  Also how wide an area is visible 5 feet from the camera?

I took a picture of myself standing 5' in front of the camera.  The image is foreshortened vertically since the camera is 7' tall.  You can see from one wrist to the tip of my other fingertips (arms outstretched) and from my forehead to my ankles.  Basically 5½' across and I'd guess 4' vertically if you were perpendicular to the lens- I'm 6'0" but like I said it was vertically foreshortened.

The focus at 5' is as good as anywhere.  We use the camera in a very small room and 5' is the beginning of 54" cribs that are head against the wall, and all but forward outside upper corner of each crib is in view.

Previously we had the camera in the living room and focus was good out to probably 12 or 15 feet.  I did no experiments closer nor further, however with my Edimax 3115W I can make out a rabbit moving across  the driveway 35 yards out, and I don't think that one has as good a lens.

If I wish to  view the camera remotely does the camera need to be plugged in the router? It says it is wireless but I cant configure it to be wireless

When first installed it should be wired then after you set it for Wifi.  Read the instructions for installing and reinstall.  After you can view camera on your smartphone with down loaded app using 3G also view on network computer by opening network devices and click on camera icon.

what is the best way to install it n a Mac ?

Very Easy setup on Mac - software CD inclosed - run and follow instructions. I have 3 of these to watch business location - Iphone app works well for remote viewing.  Color is a bit pink as others describe but not a big deal. Night vision OK but much better with additional IR light source.
