Hi Scott...  I bought this item for my grandson for Christmas and I have not talked with him, but my son said that it comes complete with everything you need.  However, my grandson uses it to record his game play and not sure how or if he does any editing.  He does love it, and sure if he needed anything else to make it work he would have already asked me to get it for his birthday that was in Feb.  Good luck..

is it compatible with PC?

Yes, my grandsons age 7 and 10 are using it with a Windows 7 computer to record game play, which they upload to YouTube.
I think their dad helped hook it up, but they can work with it.
It seems easy and produces nice recordings of the on screen action and off screen commentary.

does it support component cables?

Yes, it comes with an octopus cable that allows you to use either component or composite as well as HDMI in. Everything goes out as HDMI and USB. One thing I will tell you is depending on your computer you may actually need to purchase a component signal amplifier/booster or your video will cut in and out. This was the case with my Macbook Pro but not with my Samsung i7 laptop.

Is this compatible with the new consoles? Like xbox one and ps4?

It will support the xbox one right out of the box, PS4 needs a patch that is either out now to disable HDCP during games or is close to released. I have used mine for both xboxen and it works like a champ.

Yes, from within the Elgato software there is a tool to stream to twitch. Also if you want to use something such as OBS, the Elgato can be linked to that id you wish to have more control.

Yes, it will work with PS3. It will work with any gaming console or PC that has AV out. You may need to purchase a cable adapter for different systems but it will work. The software is the best I've ever used for a capture card. Simple, user friendly, easy adjustments when needed and easy upload.

Yes it is compatible with the Xbox One. After some recent updates they added the option for Xbox One inside the software settings. Have had no problems whatsoever recording video and sound.

It can be connected to the PS4, however Sony is pending an firmware update (or so says the Elgato website:

"Interface: USB 2.0  Input: Xbox One & Xbox 360 (unencrypted HDMI), PlayStation 3 (A/V In)  PlayStation 4 will be supported pending a firmware update by Sony in 2014.

This will work if you have component cables ( the red green blue/ red white cables). I'm not sure if this works with composite cables ( yellow/ red white cables).
