The unit is approximately 25" wide, 14" front-to-back, and 4" high.  You might want to add an additional inch or so at the back to allow for cable connections.

can I hook to my tv with my hdmi cable?

You can hookup your TV with a HDMI cable (from cable box for instance) and a Blu-Ray player with another HDMI cable to another HDMI input on your TV.
Next you need to hookup an optical cable from your TV optical out to the optical in on the Klipsch speaker system.
If hooked up this way the speaker audio will automatically connect to the HDMI input you selected on the TV for viewing.

What is the weight limit for the TV set supported by this base?

Question 4

I see how it connects to the HDTV alright but can I connect it to the cable box and also use it somehow to sound my XBOX?  (at the same time without having to move conns around)

You can do one of two ways to use an X-Box connection.  First if you X-Box uses an HDMI output, just use the HDMI to the TV.  Then when you connected the TV (via the analog red/white or the fiber optic/optical connection) it will output when you select the source on the TV.
The second connection is dependent on which X-Box you have.  There are two inputs on the Energy Base, use the other connection that you did not use for the TV.  By the way use the fiber connection for the best sound for the Energy Base.  For dynamic range, use the Dolby setting for output on the fiber output on the TV.  PCM results in stereo only with decreased dynamic output.

This is a great price - is it new?  If not, open box, new or refurbished?

The one I received was new.  I saw that box had extra tape on it but it was for shipping purpose only.  Everything inside was in original packing with no sign of anything other than being NEW.  My only gripe was it is shipped in retail box with no outer cover so people will see what you are getting.  It is a nice unit for the price and my boys and I love the sound.  Hope this helps.

Can I connect an external subwoofer to this unit?

Since there's only inputs to the unit, I'm afraid you can not. 
Actually this unit is plenty of bass to fill a mid size room. So you don't need additional bass.

That's a good question. I wish manufacturers would include the size of their products.
I don't have this, but my guess is about 4" high, 25" wide and 13" deep. Maybe someone who owns it can answer.
