Question 1

I see that this unit fits under a desk lip.  The lip on my desk is 1" deep.  Is this enough room to attach the Ergotron 45-241-026 to my desk safely?  Thank you for your help!

With only one inch lip this will not hold very well. I had it on a desk that had about a 1.5 inch lip and it was "ok" if I have the arm collapsed in on itself. If I extended it then the arm would fall off the desk. This was with a 23 inch monitor that was about 11 or 12 lbs. I was just testing it out on this desk though it is not the final place for my arm. I would not recommend putting on a lip that small. if you do not mind a hole in your desk you can attach it but drilling a hole in the desk and screwing it in from the bottom. In fact this is what I am going to do with mine.

Question 2

Under specifications it lists compatible screen sizes as under 24".  Why does the screen size (as opposed to just the weight) matter?  And will it really not work with a screen over 24"?

I have had an Asus 27" ASPB278Q on this arm for almost 2 years now without any issues.  For what it's worth, that monitor is a shade under 20lbs and falls within the manufacturer's weight capacity specs.

I've had no trouble with any of the non-latching joints giving under the weight, and have no interference issues due to the size of this monitor.  Overall I've been pleased with my combination.

Question 3

Somewhat odd question - can this be mounted upside down? In other words, imagine attaching it to a desk normally, and then turn the entire desk upside down. Would it still work?

I'm asking because I want to mount this to a commercial shelving unit and would like it to hang from the bottom of a shelf, rather than the top.

It should still work. You'll need to determine if the arm needs to be flipped as well, and if there is enough clearance for the round tube that emerges from the mounting bracket.

Question 4

How long does the arm extend from where it clamps on to a desk?

I measured my setup from the back of the desk where the arm is mounted to the back of the monitor where the mount attaches. It is about 28 inches.

Will this work with a glass desk top?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the thickness and strength of the glass. I personally would avoid using this or any heavy clamp that's going to hold a monitor (especially old heavy LCDs) because it'll cause tension build up and eventually crack, and break, the glass and be a serious hazard to you and your equipment.

If anything I would recommend using this only on plywood, wood, or any other non-glass or potentially fragile furniture material such as glass regardless of thickness.

And even so, to give example, I have a cheap-o  simple desk that has a somewhat trim cut of plywood with pulp and these clamps work just fine but, honestly, I would recommend using it with thicker, sturdier, table-top furniture.

Will this work on any monitor?

Your monitor needs to meet two requirements:
1. must have a VESA mount on the back to attach the 4 screws.  If the current stand detaches, it should work.  Screws are supplied.
2. must be less than about 24 inches   If the monitor weight is too much, the arm cannot hold it up.  There are weight and size requirements listed under specifications.

It is a great monitor arm  I have three of these in my office.

Could this mount work if I attach it to something vertical?

if you are a bit mechanically inclined... and are mounting to something sturdy like a wall.  The deskmount clamp has a black  angle bracket that is bolted to the chrome base.  The black angle bracket could be bolted to something verticle that is sturdy.  I'm not sure how strong the black angle bracket is.  it is .171 thick.

How wide is the mounting base?  And can this safely be mounted upside down?

the base is designed to be mounted in any position BUT mounting it upside down will require some extra engineering.
The main stem has no stop lock on it so if this is mounted upside down the "shoulder" will simply slide off. there is a retaining collar but this will not handle the weight upside down.

Will this mount work for a WACOM Cintiq 21UX?
I have never worked with a monitor arm mount.
Any comments on this one or another one that might

This is a standard VESA mount.  If your monitor is VESA compliant, it should work just fine.  Check the back of the monitor and see if the screws attaching it to the base are in a square pattern.  If so, it should work fine.

Question 10

Can this arm be mounted 'on top' of a desk/counter or does it have to mount 'at the edge'?

It needs a lip for the clamp to fit over and then a large screw tightens to secure it. I don't see how it could easily be mounted to the top of a desk unless you have a hole the base could fit into with a lip for the clamp to secure to.
