The Defrost Thermostat opens the heater circuit when the evaporator temperature rises above a preset temperature, thereby preventing excessive heating of the freezer compartment. Your defrost thermostat might have to be replaced if:
The freezer is too cold and the fridge is too warm
The evaporator coils are icy
