When it should be activated? For example: I can buy now, but my current license from another antivirus will expire in 2-3 months, can I activate Eset after this period or it should be activated in few hours after purchasing?

You can activate it but I would wait till your  old license had expired!
After that, do not ever activate a new license from ESET until after the expired date or you will lose how ever much time you had on the old license. This is the only thing I hate about ESET, they do not stack like any other reputable software product, for which they should be ashamed.

Is the license provided at purchase or with an email with the download link?

Over the years I have done it both ways. Meaning having a hard copy sent to me via USPS that includes key on the pkg.
This time, and I think you are talking about the downloadable version, the download link and the key will come in one email.
You can also access via order history page on newegg. But if you are running a VPN, they will not recognize you and it becomes a real headache. So doing it via the email you can download just fine. And the key will be in the email in an obvious manner.

Treat the product key you are mailed the same as if it were the printed one from shipped sleeve version. Note that if you add it to your "my eset", it will immediately start the clock on the expiration for all 3 activations(3 PC version), even if you have not used it to activate or renew an installed Eset yet. Additionally, you can use it to upgrade a lower level eset product like Nod32 at the same time as extending the license. So wait until you have the need to use it before putting it on you "my eset".

When it says 5 pc, does it mean 1 year license for all 5 pc ?

Yes, it does. Up-to five pcs will be covered for a single year.
ESET, typically offers an extended period (2yrs) on renewal.

The best way is to go on the eset website and download the latest version, just make sure you pick the right product.  I have been doing this for years and have never had a problem finding the download link, installing the software, and entering the license number.
