You don't need Internet for this to work unless you want to view on mobile devices when you're away from home then yes you will need Internet set up to access. Very nice quality and extra wide angle camera.

Are the cameras wireless?

No, the cameras are not wireless.  There is a 60 foot cable for each camera.  I order different lengths separately for a couple cameras, since on needs to be a little longer, and another much shorter.

Can I connect  wirelessly  to the DVR? I understand I may need to get a wireless card, but can it be done?

Not sure if you meant connect DVR to internet wireless or view DVR recordings wirelessly. But DVR has ethernet port, so you can connect it to a router (and the internet) for viewing through the web or the app. Depending on the router you may be able to have router connected to your home network wirelessly. But DVR itself offers no wireless capabilities.

Is the hard drive a SATA 2.5" or 3.5," and can it be replaced or upgraded?

I am certain it is a 2.5, maybe even smaller. It is a relatively small comparment.... As far as upgrades... :)  yes thru USB ports. Although I haven't seen the specs, you probably can USB 2 hard drives. It is 1080p and with so much good rezolution, you need fast HD or better yet SSHD. The software that operated system is very user friendly!

What kind of cabling connects the cameras to DVR?

They use a combination cable with BNC and 12v power, these are common with many non NVR systems and really a great upgrade if you already have the wires run from a previous system. I have used this item to replace a harbor freight setup, had to use a inexpensive adapter for their wires and a older Qsee system that used the same cables/wires (plug and play).

With four cameras recording 24/7 how long should I expect the 1TB to last before it records over?

What is the maximum distance the cameras can be from the DVR if I buy longer wiring?

They are TVI, or 1080p over coax.  If you use R59 you should be able to get up to 900ft.  If you do go over 500ft I would use 16/2 for the power.

Where and how do I download a manual for this system and why isn't there one in the kit?

There should have been a separate envelope in the box containing an quick start guide, an installation guide and some stickers for windows saying property protected by security cameras. Answers to other questions can be found on the EZVIZ website.

Is there a subscription plan for the online service?

No, the use of the online tool (cloud based) is free.  But you do have to have internet at the location connected to the unit in order to use the service.  I also recommend a minimum of 1MB upload speed for decent reliability in connecting and viewing the cameras.  The tool is available on both iphone(ipad) and android devices, as well as tools for a laptop or desktop computer.  They have both local modes (on the same network as the unit) and away modes.  You can view, see recorded video, even save snapshots and video to the current device connected to it.

I had installed this for a customer that wanted to monitor the home of their elderly parents.  Works well for them, and all the siblings can easily check in and see they are doing ok.

What size is the hard drive and can the hard drive be upgraded?

1tb hard drive, There is no install disk so I don't know how you would upgrade  to a bigger hard drive
