Does this unit come with a carrying case?

Yes, it comes with a canvas case with a Velcro flap on top.  There's also a Velcro strap/belt loop on the back so you can attach it to a tool bag or belt.

The case/pouch is 5" wide x 10" tall x 1.5" thick.

My kit has been working great.  Hope this helps.

how do i trace from a jack?

I'm no cabling expert, but here's my simple explanation...

The tone generator has an RJ11 plug that can be plugged into a jack.

Set the switch on the generator to "Tone" and press the button to turn on.  Solid will produce a steady tone, ALT will give you a high/low alternating tone.

Press the button on the probe and begin poking the black tip around on the patch panel, or bundle of wires, till you hear the tone coming through.

Note, the cable needs to be inactive.  If the cable is plugged into something, like a network switch, you won't get a tone across it.

I just see a picture of the probe. Does this include the tone generator as well or is this product just a probe and I would need to purchase the generator separately?

I needed a replacement probe and thought this was a good price for just the probe but I ended up getting the entire kit, probe, tone generator and all.  It was a great purchase.
