I'm in love with this camera5/11/2007 7:55:55 PM
Pros: The image stabilization is awesome. I'm a guy with huge hands, and I have never been able to take a picture with a camera without having it blur.
But with the S700, for the first time every pic I take looks perfect. I almost feel like I could do this for a living.
The S700 is just so easy to use right out of the box. Experienced photographers might not even need to use the manual.
Forget the digital zoom in other cameras. This one has a 10x optical zoom. A big plus for me was that the camera holds 4 batteries. That makes a huge difference when it comes to taking a lot of pictures.
I forgot to get a larger memory card though, so I am waiting for the 2gb xD type H card.
Fujifilm's website makes not of the SD cards as applying a constant drain on the batteries when the camera is not in use.
This is solved by using xD memory. Don't worry about the speed, either. SD memory may have a theoretical speed of 20mbs, but in reality are much slower. xD type H is as fast as the camera needs.
Cons: None whatsoever.
Overall Review: For me, this camera exceeded all my expectations. Fujifilm hit a home run with this one.

Great camera7/10/2007 5:58:48 AM
Pros: All the features a normal user could want, lightweight, low shutter lag, 10x zoom w/ image stabilizer
Cons: Won't fit in your jeans pocket, I guess.
Overall Review: I've taken ~150 pictures and several videos from 30 seconds to 3 minutes long and have yet to need to replace the original batteries

Capable Low to Mid-Range Camera9/23/2007 8:34:00 AM
Pros: Out of the box, the camera shoots very nice pictures. Outside shots look saturated. Macro mode works very well. This was a step up from an 'antique' digital camera, and I liked the SLR-type body design and 10X optical zoom. The first day I shot over 200 pictures, indoors, using only ambient light. For the excellent price, I thought the camera performed quite well. I used a tripod for many low shutter speed shots and got great results. Newegg service, as usual, was superb.
Cons: Make no mistake: there is definitely purple fringing on high contrast edges, and low light or highly zoomed shots have slight purple mottling digital noise. I knew this going into my purchase -- it just wasn't a deal breaker for the price point I was aiming for.
Overall Review: Look, folks -- I think most of the negative reviews might be from people, perhaps those with some experience in photography, who expect more from this camera. It's a bit like complaining that an econobox car is noisy and uncomfortable on a cross country road trip when you're expecting luxury sedan performance. Keep it real. The positive reviews, like mine, simply acknowledge that Joe-shooter looking for more than point-and-shoot capability will be more than happy with this camera...and for the price. I steered away from auto mode and found that I could get great shots on fully manual and semi-manual modes. Would I use this on a pro shoot? No way. But I'm not a pro, and neither would I drive an econobox cross country.
The camera that bridges the gap!2/6/2008 8:31:06 AM
Pros: I was very impressed with my initial impression of the camera. This is my first venture into cameras beyond the typical point and shoot cameras. The zoom was very fast and responsive. The very large LCD screen was extremly crisp and clear. Tons of features to keep any geek intrested for hours. I like the option to switch from the external LCD to a display in the view finder. I find using the view finder instead of the LCD when taking pictures makes the image more steady, and to have all the features of the menus on the view finder makes it life easier. This is the camera for a person looking for detailed family photos and better than average vacation pictures.
Cons: The incuded neck strap is the only con I can think of at the moment. Its cheap and I dont feel using it will give the security I want.
Overall Review: I am not a professional photgrapher by any means and nor do I pretend to be one. This is a sub $200 camera with features I have seen on cameras in the $500 range. It is not a top of the line SLR camera and should not be reviewed as such. I think this camera with work wonders for the using I have planned for it, family photos and vaction photos. The camera is smaller than I expected for a 10x optical zoom, its not an ultra compact pocket sized camera nor is it a giant professional size camera. This is exactly what I want in a camera, more zoom and detail than the run of the mill digital camera, but without the cost and size of SLR cameras. If you are looking for something better than the standard 3x optical zoom camera look no further.
GREAT CAMERA, WORTH EVERY PENNY!5/30/2007 3:24:58 PM
Pros: Great pictures, fast shutter speed, great fit in hand very comfortable, easy to use, many features, many more pros but too many to list.
Cons: Nothing that I can see of as of yet.
Overall Review: I would suggest this camera to anyone, it is very versatile! Can be used as a point and shoot or if you are inclined, it can be used manually with many options to choose from. It is well worth the money! I did a lot of research on many cameras that were comparable and the FujiFilm S700 came out above the others for the money. With NewEgg's price of $209.99 with free shipping and a free 2GB SD Card, it was almost too good to pass up. You won't be disapointed.
Pros: I bought his camera to replace a 4 megapixel Olympus. There is a world of diffrence! This thing powers up quickly and is very responsive. You are more likely to get the quick snapshot of the kids because there is no hesitation. What impresses me most is the low light photos and its ability to focus in poor lighting conditions. This something that was impossible with my Olympus. I am still using the batteries that came with it. I have snapped over 150 pictures so far. The macro is pretty good too. The display is large and bright.
Cons: No remote.
Overall Review: Simple to operate. A good camera for taking action photos of family or sporting events. It also uses both XD and SD memory I use SD because its a lot cheaper. Newegg was good to deal with and shipping was fast.
Pros: Great price for an SLR like cam with 10x zoom. Manual aperture and shutter controls with exposure bar and histogram are more than I really need, but its nice to learn how to use something new.
Cons: One can be easily intimidated or disappointed by the features depending on the level of experience.
Overall Review: This camera is meant for amateur photographers and is not a real point-and-shooter. Ultra-compacts will serve you better for instant shots that need to be just good enough. This thing is obviously made for people wanting to learn a little bit more of what the pro's use without sacrificing on a true SLR and possibly a lot of time. It'll be great for my brother's graduation, even if I just use the AUTO mode!
Pros: I have had this camera for a month and I'm still using the original batteries. Very efficient and takes beautiful pictures. You can make this completely manual adjust, just takes a little to get through the menus.
Cons: Doesn't have a removable lense. not a true slr camera.
Overall Review: If you're on a budget, this is more camera than what you'd pay for. i was actually shocked when i started using it. going from a nikon to this was a very easy transition.
