The heat sinks are removable and are easy to remove, cool them in a plastic bag in the freezer and use a plastic knife to pry them open.

if your board uses ddr3 240 pin memory sticks it will work. only issues u may have would be with any overclocking u might want to do.

This memory appears to be compatible however will this memory run with low voltages on the z97 pro gamer motherboard?  Because of the age of this board, does that mean this memory will revert to running at stock 1.5 volts as opposed to the lower 1.35 volts it was originally designed for?

Why would it?
If anything you can undervolt in the bios.
I don't quite understand your concern, xmp should take care of it all for you, and since it's set by the vendor, it won't make your RAM operate at an unsafe voltage (but it might give it higher voltage than 1.35v).
