This Ripjaws Series memory kit is designed specifically to complement the dual channel based chipsets, and eliminates data bottleneck by doubling your memory bandwidth. Optimized for speed, low latency and high stability, Ripjaws Series memory is the perfect solution to overall more responsive system.

Heat management is always important for any PC builder and enthusiast. G.SKILL understands this concern, which is why each Ripjaws Series DIMM comes with a stylish comb-like design heat-spreader, which dissipates heat by exposing it to cool air over a greater surface area and will look great in any case. These DIMMs also operate at a cool 1.5V for better internal temperature and compatibility.

Incompatible with motherboard or defective

Pros: Low latency

Cons: Ordered 2 pairs but could not get my computer to post after installing. Tried every possible combination with the 4 sticks in different slots and even enabled XMP in the BIOS beforehand--no luck. As soon as I put my old ram back in, computer booted right up.

Other Thoughts: I ordered these to upgrade my memory to 16GB from 8GB. The 8GB I have is exactly this version but the 4GB variety (2 pairs): https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231276&cm_re=g.skill_4gb_10666-_-20-231-276-_-Product

That memory works fine, which is why I ordered this one since it appears that they are otherwise identical (latency, speed, voltage, etc.). Not sure why the 8GB does not work but the 4GB does. Tried this out on an ASUS P5P43TD/USB3, which is a little dated, but with how cheap memory is, it seemed like an easy upgrade.

Either this memory is incompatible (when identical but lower capacity memory works totally fine) or defective. Requested a refund through Newegg.

Hi Mark

We will be glad to help with this issue. Unfortunately, DDR3 chips have changed over time and this particular memory kit is no longer compatible with the Intel P43 chip set. For that motherboard, it is recommended to use G.Skill F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT. With two sets of this kit, you can achieve 16GB total for your system. In the future, if you encounter such problems, please feel free to contact us directly and we will make sure your computer has the proper RAM to run at maximum performance.

Thank you

Absolutely Stable take 2

Pros: Easy to install, inexpensive, reliable, fast, compatible. Even now a couple of years later it's still good memory. I haven't even tried overclocking it. G.SKILL has become my favorite. I won't even look at other brands.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I originally had 8GB of RAM (4 Ripjaws Series F3-10666CL7D 2GB RAMs) and replaced two of them with the F3-10666CL7D 4GB RAMs increasing my memory to 12GB (2 X 2GB and 2 X 4GB)

System:
MSI NF980-G65 AMD mother board (Intel who?)
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T - 3.3 GHz Six Core CPU
12GB G.SKILL DDR3 1333 RAM 7-7-7-21
MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti video
Samsung HD103SJ 1TB SATA HD (partitioned into 2 drives)
1X LITE-ON DVD burner
1X LG WH14NS40 14X M-Disc Blu-ray BDXL CD DVD Internal Burner Writer Drive

Antec full tower window case (don't know the model - have had it for 6+ years) with 5 green LED 80mm fans

High-density RAM - not compatible with my motherboard

Pros: Great speed and timings. 1333MHz at CL7 is supposedly faster than 1600MHz at CL9. Tech support was amazing! No department selection or recordings, just a very helpful technician answering the phone.

Cons: This is high-density RAM (this is not mentioned anywhere) which isn't always a problem, but apparently it is for my motherboard, a Gigabyte H55-USB3 from 2010. Since I believe the RAM not to be defective, I am not deducting any eggs from the rating. However, I would ask G.Skill and other manufacturers to include the density type of their RAM modules in the specifications since that is apparently quite important for some motherboards (probably the older ones).

Other Thoughts: SYMPTOMS
-----------------
When this RAM was mounted along with the old RAM (2x1GB Kingston Hyper-X, same speed and timings), the computer would POST and even boot into my memory test utility. But the memory test would crash and the computer reboot, and sometimes the screen would suddenly fill with multi-colored squares just before reboot. This is probably because I am using integrated graphics which means the system RAM is being used for video memory and it was malfunctioning, causing graphical glitches.

When this RAM was mounted alone (each stick individually or as a pair), the computer failed even to POST. Because each stick failed individually, I do not believe the RAM to be defective - the odds are too much against getting two bad sticks in the same package.

DIAGNOSIS
-----------------
I called tech support and the phone was immediately answered by a real person! He reminded me of some tests I could try (which I should have thought of before calling him) including updating the BIOS to a version that claimed better RAM support. I performed all recommended tests on my own, got the same results, and called him back. At this point he decided the problem must be that my motherboard does not support high-density RAM (which he told me this set is). I had read of that being the case with some motherboards, but I had no way of knowing if my motherboard supported high-density, or if this RAM kit was high-density (the density is not reported). The technician recommended a different set that he knew to be low-density (G.Skill Value Series F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT).

RESOLUTION (AND HOW TO TELL HIGH-DENSITY FROM LOW)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was in a hurry so instead of ordering from NewEgg I went to my local computer super center. The sales associate picked out a 2x4GB set of Crucial Ballistix Sport 1600MHz CL9 for $40, which he assured me was low density. He showed me that I could see the difference by looking between the heat spreaders and PCB at the individual memory IC chips (the small, thin, black, square blocks) along each face of the PCB. If they are on only one side, he explained, the RAM is high-density (thus, fewer of them are needed). The Crucial RAM has a row of chips on both sides. This G.Skill RAM has chips on only one side and the other side has just a long heat transference pad. The pad is the same thickness as the chips and so only close inspection would reveal that it was not another row of chips (by noticing the lack of gaps between chips). I would guess that with 8GB and higher RAM modules, even high-density ICs would have to be loaded on both sides of the stick, so memory ICs on both sides may not always indicate low-density RAM - just be aware of that if this is a concern for you.

I found that the Crucial RAM runs fine at 1333MHz and 7-7-7-21 timings, and passed my stress test alongside the original RAM. So I got the speed I wanted in the end.

So thank you to G.Skill for providing uncommonly good tech support, and I would thank the Sharonville, OH computer center as well for hiring knowledgeable and helpful staff, but I am not permitted to mention their name. G.Skill does not offer refunds, so I returned the RAM to Newegg and promptly received approval for a refund (minus a $7 restocking fee).

G.Skill, please include the density type of your RAM in your specifications.

One stick died on me had to RMA but after that no problems.

Pros: After my one RMA of one of the sticks within the first year no issues.

Cons: Within 1 year of owning 2 of these sticks one died on me would not be recognized by Windows. I may have inserted it into the wrong slot. Now both sticks are side by side before I did Slot 1 and slot 4 and something went wrong on my MSI motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Would buy G. Skill again in the future unless I find a better deal from another brand.

Great Value

Pros: Price
Slim design with low height heat spreaders

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is my second time to buy G-Skill RAM. I bought my first set of these in January 2011 when I built my current desktop. At that time they cost $109.99. The price has really dropped so I bought another set to bring my RAM up to the 16GB maximum for my board. I use graphic intensive photography programs and am having no problems at all.
