Will this memory work in an old dell dim.2400 computer that has 533 Mhz 256 Mb GDDR2 memory in it ??

It may work. I have looked over the dell site and other blogs about your same question and it is not clear, do you have a specific model number that is on the tag? That would give the generation of the machine whether it can only take 512 MB ram. Even so, it might work but may only recognize the 512mg in each slot instead of 1GB. Also, the Dell site seemed to recommend a slower speed such as 333 or 400 mhz. But if you have more specifics on the dell model then you might be able to drill down into the dell support site to see what the specs are for it.

Does anyone know if this is a single sided(8 chips) or double sided(16 chips) DIMM? I have an old embedded board that only supports double-sided DIMMs.

I recently got a new PC and am just curious about my options(if any) for this:  I have a Gigabyte GA-970 Gaming SLI motherboard Crossfire AM3+ with ADATA 4GB DDR3-2133 XPG V3 x 2 and am looking into the possibility of adding G. Skill DDR2-533 PC2-4200 1GB x 2. I am at the moment just trying to find as much information as I can about  this. The two G. Skill DRAM came out of my old Dell desktop that I no longer use. Any information and/or thoughts appreciated. Looking forward to feedback?

Mixing existing DDR3 memory with DDR2 isn't advisable. I have used the G Skill DDR2 products; they are excellent. Recommend using all one type of memory and going with DDR3's . The spec on the motherboard is "Dual Channel DDR3, 4 DIMMs" .  please review the memory section of motherboard specs ( see their web site ) . You already have the AM3+ , and can support the higher transfer speeds. If you mix-n-match ADATA memory with GSkill DDR3 equivalent (if it exists) is a must to ensure CAS Latency and Timings are the same . Recommend sticking with the ADATA modules , just get a few more) as they work with eXtreme memory profile supported by that motherboard. Of course, make sure you are using a 64 bit O/S
