I have a MAXIMUS VIII HERO but I'm only getting about 2200 in clock speed for this memory. Has anyone else experienced the same?

Yes. I've worked with ASUS on this directly.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS revision for the motherboard (currently revision 1402).

Set XMP to profile 1. When i asks if you want to use optimal timings, click no. Set Core Ratio to Sync all cores.

Assuming nothing else was tinkered with, this should work.

If you have the latest bios, default the bios and try again. When XMP enables (and you press F10 to save and exit) it should change a setting called Maximus Tweak Mode to 1.

I've used this ram a ton on hero boards. Works great.

What color are they? In one picture they're black, but in another they're red.

Wish it would let me post a pic- but mine were red. It went nicely with the gigabyte board that also had red accents. Black would look good too. Beware of the CPU cooler you buy!  These sticks are quite tall and my cooler blocked slot 4

Will this get full performance from an I7-6700K?

The cpu won't be the bottleneck in this situation. Motherboard and power supply will be. Make sure you choose a motherboard capable of the higher clock speed XMP profiles this kit uses and get a decent power supply

Will this RAM work with a X99X Killer/3.1 motherboard? Specifically the ASRock Fatal1ty X99X Killer/3.1?

I can't say whether it will run in any X99X boards, as my use is in ASUS Z170 with 6700k processor.  What I can say is that I have 64 GB of this RAM running at 3200 spec, liquid cooled, and one-click overclocked to 4.8 GHz, and system is rock stable with no overheating.  Only other comments would be to check the manufacturer site and see if they have any info, or forums for your particular motherboard.

Some older ASROCK x99 motherboards are NOT out of the box compatible. If you experience issues always be sure to update the BIOS. It should be fine after that though.

Hello,

Although it wouldn't be my first motherboard choice, this RAM is indeed compatible with the Gigabyte GA-X99-SLI motherboard.
This ram is DDR4 and your motherboard requires DDR4.

For better performance, I would go with 4 sticks of 8GB since X99 motherboards support Quad-Channel whereas Z170 only supports Dual.

In any case, I can't comment as for the quality and performance of this RAM since I still haven't received them despite buying them over 3 months ago.
