my HP model h8-1010 calls for Non-ECC memory only, unbuffered. is this compatible?

You're going to get a couple of different answers on this, and here they are:

Theoretically, if it's the same speed and has similar timings as what the machine already has it should be fine. - Most people do this

Truthfully, there are really aren't many companies that truly manufacture the RAM chips themselves, and some have manufacture to better tolerances than others (batches).  Most are re-branded and assembled by manufacturers to basic specifications.

*Ideally,* you really want to mach (speed, timing manufacturer, batch etc) RAM sticks whenever possible, because it is possible to run into conflicts.  - by the bookers, system builders and geeks do this.

Personally I recommend this option if possible.

Most motherboard manufacturers provide a list of support/compatible RAM.  Again RAM is truly generic in the purest sense (DDR3 1600 is DDR3 1600, DDR3 1866 is DDR3 1866) until it is assembled by a manufacturer.

With an HP, your motherboard was designed to meet their specifications usually by MSI, Intel, or other big name company.  You won't find a compatibility list, BUT you might be able to find one for another board made by the same manufacturer using the same chipset.

Side note - HP is a very difficult company to deal with when it comes to service and warranty issues.  If your computer is still within warranty status, buy RAM from them and have it installed by an approved service technician/facility, in my experience, only DELL is worse.

Note:
If possible check to see if you are running 1066 or 1333, because if your running 1066 the system will throttle this stick down to the lower frequency. But either way it will work/run.
