Hi everyone, I’m new to pc building and just built my first one but I’ve been having problems with it.
I’m using an Asus Z790, I9 14900 cpu and a 5080 gpu. I’ve been doing an air cooled build with 4 120mm be quiet silent wings 4 fans and 2 140mm with a dark rock pro 5 cpu cooler. But after all that the fans still make lots of noise when I play the latest games. Would switching the cpu cooler and the 2 140mm to an AIO actually get it to be quiet?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
Hey! let’s make that computer much quieter together.
Why is it so loud right now?
The i9-14900 is one of the most thermally demanding consumer CPUs ever made. While the Dark Rock Pro 5 is an elite air cooler, it has to work incredibly hard to keep that chip from thermal throttling under load.
When you play “the latest games,” your CPU and GPU are both dumping massive amounts of heat into the case. To keep up, your CPU cooler fans and your case fans are likely ramping up to their maximum RPM (revolutions per minute), which is where that “whooshing” noise comes from. You can try to slightly decrease the speed of the fans in your BIOS settings.
Check Your Airflow Path: Ensure your four 120mm fans are set up correctly. Usually, you want intake at the front/bottom and exhaust at the back/top. If your fans are fighting each other, heat builds up and forces the fans to spin faster.
Sometimes AIO’s can be helpful, but honestly, they still use fans at the end of the day to cool the radiator.
