Building a PC

What do you think is the most common thing most builders( Home & Pro) cut corners on? I’d say Motherboard.
What’s your option?

I’d agree w/ Motherboard. That’s where I try to cut corners.

One of the most common cut corners, historically speaking, among DIY builders is power supply. We see it fairly often, people will use a PSU calculator on a website, plug in all their components, and see it say that they only need 450W for their system, so they buy a 500W Thermaltake Smart. Despite the naming, that’s not a smart idea…

I agree! I’ve seen systems reboot in the middle of gameplay because insufficient power. Also I’ve gotten different results from power supply calculators. With my stats Newegg 500-599watts Coolermaster 465watts MSI 613watts(They included fans & overclocking options) be quiet! 553watts
Keep in mind the Recommended PSU Wattage for my 5070 is 650watts! plus my 65watt 9700X total of 10fans 1 pump two 1TB M.2 drives and 2 sticks of DDR5.

I’ve noticed that many PC builders cut corners on the power supply and SSD, even though these are critical for system reliability and longevity. Spending just an extra $20–$30 can make a huge difference in performance and durability over time.
