My son wants a gaming PC and I have NO clue what I’m doing and it’s stressing me out! It was supposed to be for his birthday, that was a month ago! Oops! He is 11 and plays VR and uses steam too. We want something he can grow into. I don’t want the cheapest or most expensive. I also don’t want to see things flying around the house when he (lags) is that the word? Ha! He mentioned making sure it has 32g and not 16g? Ugh! He also said no crazy bright flashing lights on the pc…huh? I assume he wants a low key look. We need the PC, monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse. Budget $2,500-$3,000. He is a good kid, don’t judge
Anyway, please help! Thank you so much!
Hey @NoClueMom,
Have no fear, we are here! You can likely spend about $2k on the computer and the rest of the money on Monitor, Keyboard, and Mouse.
Here’s a good computer to start with. It’s a mid range computer that won’t break the bank and not lag. https://www.newegg.com/msi-gaming-desktop-pc-geforce-rtx-5070-intel-core-ultra-7-265k-32gb-ddr5-2tb-nvme-ssd-aegis-rs2-ai-c2nvp7-1444us/p/N82E16883151621
As for 32g instead of 16g, he’s most like referring to RAM. This has 32 Gb of RAM that he’s asking for.
Every computer will have bright flashy lights, so I would suggest you just get a computer, and turn the lights off in BIOS. Your son or some of his gamer friends should know how to do that.
For monitor, I’d recommend this one. It’s an OLED monitor around $450 that matches the power of the computer.

That leaves you with a budget of around $300 for a Keyboard and Mouse that he can go pick out. He should have a few ideas that he wants.
That answers all your questions and concerns. Reply here if you have any questions! ![]()
Hey Welcome & thanks for posting! Here’s a list I made for your son I tried to keep the flashing light to a minimum. It has a PC rated the 92th Percentile gaming keyboard & mouse and great OLED monitor It also comes with a free 2nd hard drive & a free copy of Resident Evil 9

Check out the deals here if you do or don’t have a Costco membership
Check the nearby store if it is close, also see if you have a microcenter nearby too. These are all nice places to get very good sales and deals on PC parts, and the microcenters are more than happy to help you build a whole pc.
Thank you all very much! I really appreciate the advice and suggestion’s!
